I dropped my bag inside of the truck, then reached into one of our food coolers and grabbed whatever my hand hit first. A beef and cheese Walmart sub, Good enough; I thought as I took the first bite. It was cold, so it kind of sucked, but it was better than being hungry; and it seemed to stay down better after that scene. I listened as Josh talked to Crystal about my 'condition' at the rear of the truck.
"I think he might be hallucinating..." Josh told her.
"It's possible; mind you I'm not an expert, but I think he would have seen something less. He wouldn't have seen what you describe as a vision from the past. But hell, what do I know? Maybe it's something spiritual and the spirits connect better with him or something." Crystal replied, kind of putting Josh at ease.
"So you think he'll be fine?"
"Yeah. If it is hallucinations, that's a big if, then they'll stop."
"Alright... thanks."
"No, thank you for bringing it to my attention."
The conversation ended and I wanted to call Josh a traitor as he walked by me, but held myself back. I had finished the sub rather quickly, then grabbed a bottle of water from my bag; beginning to drink it as I climbed into the vehicle and we started moving again. From the looks I was getting, everyone had heard the story, and it made me want to ride in the other vehicle, but I stayed quiet; riding in boredom for about an hour.
"Someone get up here!" I heard from above us, I climbed through the window as the vehicle moved and spotted Drake aiming through the sniper's scope.
"What's up?"
"Come see for yourself." He told me, handing me the rifle and I stood in front of the bucket and followed the road.
Up ahead of us I could see a large roadblock, protected by two M1A2 Abrams and a few military transports and Humvee's.
"Holy shit, think it's actiiiiuuuhhhhh....." I began to ask as I saw the cannon of one of the tanks turn to look at us. Within about five second I could see about two dozen troops armed and ready to attack if things went bad.
"Everyone slow down! Keep your weapons ready, and don't make any sudden movements!"
"they aren't dinosaurs!" Jennifer said.
"Yeah no shit!" I shot back, "Just keep calm."
I looked down at my watch as I handed Drake the rifle and climbed back down and grabbed my gear. I once again climbed out the window and this time hopped off of the truck and caught onto the dozer, opening their door and telling them the same thing.
I rode the side of it until we reached the roadblock, then held my hands high as I approached one of the Humvee's.
"What are you all doing out here?" One of the men asked.
"I was about to ask you the same thing."
They just seemed to look around at each other, then lowered their guard; seeming to deem us friendly.
"What the hell is going on in the cities? We haven't gotten any orders, just the occasional supply drop." The highest ranking Soldier asked.
"Hell. The cities are gone, even the fucking rural ones; all of it gone. Wait? You said supply drops?"
"Yeah. We get flights of C-130's and V-22's droppin' supplies in this area every two or so days. Right now they're late."
"You know where they're taking off from?"
"Negative, just know it's somewhere in that direction. Off west. I'd be almost tempted to ask you all to find it, but you couldn't fly anyw-"
"I can fly." I interrupted him, "I've flown Black hawks and Ospreys."
