Anirudh Singhal

I cruised down the highway navigating the bustling streets of Mumbai, as I headed towards my workplace at AS and Company. This is my dream, my pride and my joy. I built it from the ground, and through all the ups and downs, we've reached that stage where we are now recognised as Mumbai's top accounting firm. We took up the very best clients to work with and our first client turned out to be really fortunate for us. The top entrepreneur, Kapish Singhal. Do you recognise the name? Yep, you got it spot on. He's my dad. I manage his accounts and finance department as an in-house retainership contractor. Since then, there's been no looking back. Over time, my company's success has spread to the masses, and I've been receiving an increasing number of clients.

I drove to my company building, parked in my private parking lot, and walked in. As I walked into the building and headed to the private lift, the security staff greeted me and I nodded in response.

Once in the lift, I tapped on the button for the 16th floor. That's where the top executives and the CEO, who happens to be me, have their offices.

I headed to my room when I spotted Mahesh coming my way, holding a piping hot cup of coffee. Mahesh is the floor manager. I paused, grabbed the coffee from his hands, and swung open the door to my office. The sight in front of me made me double check that I was in the right room. My room was filled with flower bouquets.

"Bakshi! Last time I checked, this was my office; when and why did it change into a flower garden?" Bakshi is my P.A., but only temporarily. I've borrowed him from another department and he's doing well here; at least he's better than my previous personal assistant, who only lasted a week.

"Sir, these are from the new clients sending their Thanks." He replied with a friendly smile.

"Okay, please get all this cleared out immediately. I want this place returned to its original state."

"Um, sir, there's a personalised note on each bouquet."

"Nah, don't even worry about it. Just hand out these flowers to the employees. I can't stand seeing them go to waste, so let's make it snappy."

Feeling relieved after delegating tasks to my assistant, I sat down at my desk and dove into my work. The ringing of my phone interrupted my focus, and the screen displayed "My beautiful lady." Putting aside my work and my grumpiness, I took up the phone and exclaimed, "Good morning, world's most beautiful lady," as I sat back in my chair and grinned from ear to ear.

"Oh, nice try, but don't try to flatter me. I won't forget that you ditched your parents last week," came the sassy reply.

"Seriously, mom, you know I've been swamped." Yeah, my parents are absolutely amazing and I'm fortunate to have them and their support.

"Alright, alright, cool, I understand." She chuckled. "I gave you a call to see if you're up for dinner tonight. We need to talk about something important," she said, sounding serious.

"Mom, are you alright? Is dad fine?" I asked with concern as I sat up in my chair. My dad had a minor heart attack when, um, my family was going through a tough time. Ever since that incident, we've been really cautious about his well-being.

"Oh! No, your dad is fine; we just want to talk to you." Mom's words brought me relief.

"Fine Mom, See you tonight! I love you." Saying that, I ended the call but then it started ringing again, flashing the name, 'Dheeraj Bawa.'
