"The cameras have completely shut down." Kane informed the council. "We have no way of telling what is going on, or who is still alive, we're not even sure if anyone is still alive."

The room fell silent for a second. The silence was different than ever before...it was a sad silence. It was a guilty silence.

Each and every year 28 children would be sent down to earth, and each year 27 of them would die. This time everyone died, they felt guilty.

"Does knowledge or educated ideas on what to do?" Jaha broke the silence as he looked around the circular table, waiting for suggestions.

Abby glanced away from everyone, but then forced herself to look back. "We send someone down to earth, some guards to scope the area."

"No." Jaha shook his head. "There's no reason to send our people down there."

"Chancellor, with all due respect I strongly erg you to consider this." Abby spoke up, sounding extremely agitated.

"Abby, we can't let the fact that our children were sent to the ground effect the decisions we make." Jaha added. "We already know that they're dead."

"No."Abby shook her head. "Maybe they're still alive, maybe they're still out there."

Everyone at the table remained silent, and looked to Jaha, wondering how he would argue his case.

"We don't have any proof!" Jaha yelled as she stood up from his chair, slamming his hand on the table.

"We don't have any proof, but we have hope." Abby told him, remaining calm.

"Hope?" Jaha spit the word out like it was poison in his mouth.

"Allow me and a few guards to go down to the ground, and just look around." Abby begged.

"Abby, it's too dangerous." Kane shook his head in disagreement.

"But, we have to try." Abby argued.
