Autumn had settled over the city, and Dahyun, Kaede, and Kotone made it a habit to explore every corner they could find. One Saturday, they strolled through a bustling street market, the aroma of grilled skewers and sugary treats filling the air.
Kaede suddenly stopped, tugging Dahyun's arm. "Look! Giant cotton candy animals!"
Dahyun ended up holding a half-melted blob that was supposed to be a rabbit. "Kaede, I think it's melting into a crime scene," he laughed, trying to hold it together.
Kotone held up his perfect bear-shaped cotton candy, raising an eyebrow. "Mine's still cute. Guess cotton candy prefers people with steady hands."
Dahyun rolled his eyes, about to respond when he almost tripped over a loose brick. Kaede yanked him back just in time, causing him to squish the cotton candy all over her hand.
"Oh, now it's everywhere," she laughed, flicking bits of sugar off her fingers.
"Wow, you've really got the 'knight-in-sticky-armor' thing down, Kaede," Kotone snickered.
"Yeah, yeah, just don't expect me to save you," Dahyun mumbled, cheeks pink as Kaede winked at him.
Weeks later, they found themselves at a botanical garden, where Kotone immediately decided to climb a low-hanging tree branch.
"Be careful up there, Tarzan," Kaede called, watching him wobble.
"Oh, please! I've got balance!" Kotone replied, proudly standing on the branch—only to lose his footing. But while Kaede was watching Kotone, she slipped on a mossy patch and nearly face-planted herself.
Before Dahyun could react, Kotone was on the ground, catching her in an impressive but completely unnecessary swoop. "Gotcha!" he said, grinning.
"Okay, okay, put me down," Kaede huffed, pushing herself away while Dahyun gave a weak thumbs-up. Kotone winked, adjusting his invisible hero cape.
"Wow, I can't believe I was saved by the guy who fell out of the tree," she muttered, earning a laugh from Dahyun, who was all too glad he wasn't the one stumbling this time.
A few weeks later, the trio ventured on a hike, the chill in the air refreshing as they trudged up rocky trails. They'd barely started when Dahyun, too busy talking about his favorite ramen, slipped on a rock.
"Dahyun! Watch out!" Kaede grabbed him just in time, pulling him back before he could hit the dirt.
"Man, I am a walking disaster," he muttered, cheeks red.
"Maybe I just like saving you," Kaede teased, grinning.
Kotone rolled his eyes. "At this rate, you'll owe her a million 'thank you's and some serious hazard pay."
"Look, I'm just clumsy, okay?" Dahyun laughed, shrugging off the dirt and trying to keep up as Kaede skipped ahead, laughing.
Kotone smirked. "Don't worry, hero-girl, if you ever fall, I'll be there to catch you."
"Not that I need catching," Kaede replied with a wink, making them both laugh while Dahyun rolled his eyes.
Winter passed, and as spring warmed up, the three found themselves in a cherry blossom park. They sprawled under the trees, munching on sandwiches and sharing random stories.
"Oh my gosh, look! There's a mini-kite stuck in that tree," Kaede pointed, her face lighting up.
"Don't trip over anything trying to get it!" Dahyun teased, laughing.
Kaede shot him a glare, then promptly marched over to get the kite. But as she returned, Kotone gave Dahyun a mock sigh. "You really don't want to save her this time?"
"I'm tired, let her save herself!" Dahyun joked, but Kaede threw him a playful look.
"Please, you're the one needing saving every five minutes," she teased, plopping down beside him. Kotone high-fived her, and they all dissolved into laughter under the blooming trees.
Finally, summer rolled in, bringing with it a blazing sun and a trip to the amusement park. The three were in line for the roller coaster, and Dahyun was daydreaming about funnel cakes when he tripped over his own feet. This time, Kaede swooped in, catching him before he could face-plant onto the hot pavement.
"Guess what, everyone? I'm still saving Dahyun!" she called out, making him turn red.
"Seriously? Again?" Kotone groaned, stifling a laugh. "Do we need to get him some protective gear or something?"
"Maybe a personal rescue fund?" Kaede laughed, still holding onto Dahyun's arm.
Dahyun grinned, trying to play it cool. "Hey, I just like giving you more reasons to save me, alright?"
Kotone smirked. "Sure, keep telling yourself that. One day you'll owe her enough rescues to last a lifetime."
Over time, their routine "rescues" became more of a running joke than actual mishaps. By the time summer was ending, they'd all grown used to Kaede's quick reflexes and Dahyun's tendency to trip on absolutely nothing.
One evening, as they sat at a bus stop after yet another day of laughs, Kaede leaned over with a sly grin. "Maybe I should just hire myself out as your full-time bodyguard, Dahyun."
"Oh, I'll pay you in cotton candy and sandwiches," Dahyun replied, laughing.
"Deal!" she said, holding out her hand.
Dahyun took her hand, a warm spark of friendship—and maybe something more—lingering as the evening sun dipped below the horizon. With every laugh and rescue, he realized just how much he valued having her by his side for whatever adventures—and spills—were yet to come.
