The afternoon sun hung high over the city, casting warm golden rays on the bustling streets below. Kaede and Mayu strolled through a crowded plaza, filled with street vendors hawking their wares and families enjoying the day out. Kaede was deep in thought, her mind wrestling with the riddle from Seoyeon's letter.

"To find the one you need to protect, look for the light that's often unchecked..."

"What are you thinking about?" Mayu asked, breaking Kaede from her reverie.

"I'm just trying to figure out what 'laughter and chaos' means in this context," Kaede replied, glancing around at the sea of people.

"You'd think it would be obvious, but it feels like I'm trying to catch smoke with my bare hands."

Mayu laughed. "Well, that would certainly make a mess! How about we just observe? Sometimes the answer pops up when you least expect it."

With that, they ventured deeper into the city, weaving through the crowds and taking in the sights. Kaede's heart raced with anticipation, hoping to spot someone who fit the riddle's description. They passed by an arcade, where cheers and laughter erupted from the patrons, and a food market, where the aroma of fried dumplings wafted through the air. But nothing clicked.

"Hey, look over there!" Mayu pointed toward a group of young men nearby, one of whom was animatedly recounting a story, his friends laughing uncontrollably. Kaede squinted, her curiosity piqued. The young man certainly embodied "laughter and chaos," his movements as wild as his storytelling.

"Maybe that's him?" Kaede mused, already taking a step toward the group.

But just as she approached, the boy turned, waving goodbye to his friends as he rushed away, disappearing into the crowd. Kaede stopped, frustration bubbling inside her.

"I'm just going in circles," she sighed. "This is impossible!"

Mayu patted her back. "Don't worry! We'll figure it out. Sometimes the path reveals itself unexpectedly."

As they walked on, Kaede couldn't shake her growing disappointment. Was she ever going to decipher this riddle? They entered a nearby park, and the sound of laughter drew them in. As they turned a corner, Kaede's eyes widened in surprise.

There, beneath a cherry blossom tree, was Dahyun, struggling to take a selfie. He was leaning at an awkward angle, trying to capture the delicate pink flowers against the bright blue sky, and his intense concentration made him look ridiculously adorable.

"There's your laughter and chaos, right here," Mayu whispered, stifling a laugh.

"Shh!" Kaede said, her cheeks flushing. "He'll hear you!"

But Dahyun didn't seem to notice. After a few more unsuccessful attempts, he finally threw his hands up in defeat. "Why can't I just get a good picture?"

"Need some help?" Kaede called out, stepping forward.

Dahyun's face lit up as he recognized her. "Kaede! Mayu! I didn't see you there! Sure, I'd love some help!"

With a grin, Kaede took the phone from him and positioned herself next to the tree. "Here, you just need to angle it like this. Let me take the picture."

Dahyun posed beside her, the corners of his mouth stretching into a wide smile, and Kaede snapped a few shots before showing him the results. "See? Much better!"

"Wow, you're a pro!" he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with appreciation.

As they chatted, Kaede couldn't shake the feeling that Dahyun was somehow connected to her mission. She watched him with newfound awareness as he animatedly described his weekend plans, his clumsiness shining through as he gestured wildly, almost losing his balance.

"Careful!" she instinctively reached out to steady him as he stumbled over a root.

"Thanks!" he laughed, brushing it off, but Kaede felt a strange sense of satisfaction at being there for him.

Throughout their outing, she found herself catching him before he bumped into people or nudging him aside just in time to avoid an oncoming biker. Each small moment felt oddly familiar, as if she were slipping into a role she was meant to play.

Later, they settled on a park bench, sharing ice cream. Kaede took a moment to reflect, watching Dahyun as he wiped a bit of melted ice cream from his cheek. Each time he laughed or made a joke, she felt that instinctive pull, that sense of duty she couldn't quite place.

"Hey, Kaede, what's on your mind?" Mayu asked, her eyes sharp.

Kaede bit her lip, weighing her words. "I think... I think Dahyun might actually be my assignment. He fits the riddle. The 'light in laughter and chaos'—he's right here!"

Mayu raised an eyebrow, a smirk creeping onto her face. "Sometimes the answer is right in front of you, huh?"

Kaede nodded slowly, excitement blooming within her. "It feels like a calling. I want to protect him."

"Then go for it!" Mayu encouraged, her grin widening. "You've got this!"

By the end of the day, Kaede had made her decision. She would act as if Dahyun was her assigned human, ready to take on whatever this new role meant. As they parted ways, Dahyun flashed her a playful smile. "You know, I've been feeling pretty lucky lately. It's like I've got my own personal guardian angel."

Kaede laughed, her heart racing with anticipation. "Just be careful, or I might have to save you again!"

With a new sense of purpose, she and Mayu exchanged knowing glances as they left the park. The future was uncertain, but Kaede felt ready to embrace her new path—whatever challenges lay ahead.
