The evening air was cool as Kotone and Kaede walked side by side down the bustling streets of the mortal world. The sun had set, painting the sky in hues of purple and pink, and the streets were quieter now, with only the occasional passerby lingering. Kotone, still in his mortal guise, walked with an easy confidence, though his mind was occupied. He'd grown accustomed to this life, the simplicity, the normalcy of it—especially when it meant spending time with someone like Kaede.
Kaede, on the other hand, walked beside him with a lightness in her step, occasionally laughing at something Kotone had said. There was a warmth between them, a camaraderie that Kotone hadn't realized he'd been missing. It was strange, this connection they shared. Yet, despite the carefree moments, a subtle tension lingered in the air. Something Kotone couldn't quite put his finger on, but Kaede, as always, had a way of keeping things light.
As they reached the door to Kaede's apartment building, she turned to him, smiling softly. "Thanks for walking me home," she said, her voice full of warmth.
Kotone nodded, his hands in his pockets. "It's nothing. I enjoy spending time with you."
Kaede's eyes twinkled with mischief, her lips curving into a playful grin. Without warning, she leaned up on her toes and pecked him on the cheek. The brief kiss was light but left a rush of warmth spreading through Kotone's chest.
The sudden gesture caught him off guard, and his heart raced in his chest. His face flushed, a mixture of surprise and something else he hadn't expected. Kaede noticed his flustered expression and laughed, her eyes softening.
"Goodnight, Kotone," she said, voice a bit quieter now, as though she were waiting for him to say something.
Kotone stood frozen for a moment, unsure of what to say, his pulse still racing from the unexpected kiss. But before he could compose himself, something inside him snapped. Without thinking, he reached out, gently but firmly grabbing her face in his hands.
Kaede's breath hitched as she looked up at him, her expression shifting from surprise to something deeper, something more vulnerable. Kotone's thumb brushed along her cheek for a brief second before he closed the space between them, pressing his lips softly against hers. The kiss was gentle, warm, and full of an unspoken understanding.
Time seemed to stretch in that moment, the world around them fading into the background as they shared the kiss. It was only when they pulled away that Kotone realized just how fast his heart was beating. Kaede blinked up at him, her cheeks flushed, a softness in her eyes that made Kotone's chest tighten.
For a moment, neither of them said anything. Kotone was still trying to come to terms with what had just happened, and Kaede seemed equally stunned.
"Goodnight," Kotone said softly, his voice a little hoarse, before he turned to walk away.
Kaede stood there for a moment, her hand on her lips as if savoring the sensation of the kiss. The night air seemed to grow colder as Kotone turned and headed back down the street, his mind a whirlwind of emotions he wasn't quite sure how to process.
But not far from them, hidden in the shadows, a pair of eyes watched. A figure, cloaked in darkness, observed the scene with a faint, mocking smile curling at the corners of their lips.
The spy from the Dark World had been watching Kotone, waiting for the right moment. The figure smirked, satisfied with what they had seen. They disappeared into the night with a swift movement, vanishing like a wisp of smoke.

Meanwhile, Kotone walked down the street, unaware of the watchful eyes following his every move. The night air grew still, and a sudden stirring of wind made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. He instinctively turned around, his eyes scanning the area.
That's when he saw him.
Emerging from the shadows, the figure stood tall, his presence commanding. It was Dojin—the wingman of Mugangwa, his dark wings fluttering slightly in the night breeze.
Dojin's lips curled into a smirk as he looked at Kotone. "Soraichi," he said, his voice smooth and mocking. "Such a delightful moment with your little angel,"
Kotone's eyes narrowed, his body tensing instinctively.
Dojin took a step closer, his eyes gleaming with dark amusement. "I have a message for you," he continued, his voice dripping with malice. "Those close to you... will collapse."
The words hung in the air like a dark omen, sending a chill down Kotone's spine. Before he could react, Dojin gave a final smirk and vanished into the night, leaving only the eerie stillness behind.
Kotone stood there, the weight of Dojin's words sinking in. His heart pounded in his chest as he quickly turned on his heel, his mind racing. He needed to return home. The darkness was closing in.
