Epilogue

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." -Augustine of Hippo

Everett's Point of View

I walk along the sidewalk downtown, my hands shoved into my pockets. My leather jacket is heavy on my shoulders, but it protects me from the cold winter weather as the wind bites at my cheeks. I pass a line of cozy sweet shops and coffee cafes.

In the past three months, I had moved from town to town, trying to find something that interested me or grabbed my attention for the time being. So far, it has been nothing but rent payments and moving the select pieces of furniture that I carry with me, including the couch that belonged to my mother and a coffee table stained with rings.

I hadn't gone to college, even though I had gotten accepted to quite a few places. My sights had been more set on traveling, a wanderlust sparked by a certain road trip so long ago.

As I trudge down the street, I see a vaguely familiar face peering into the window of a book store. My lips form the shape of her name, but before I can speak, a voice rings out with the same name.

     "Leo, honey?"

I watch as a man about my age approach her, a toddler on his hip that looks almost identical to Leo. "I've been waiting for you at the coffee shop for twenty minutes, gorgeous."

Leo lets out a giggle, blushing. "Sorry, Ethan. I just got caught up in that book right there," She accepts the coffee from him and points to a cover in the window.

"That does look really interesting, I have to admit," He nods slowly as he leans into the window as well.

Leo straightens her back and takes the toddler from the man's hip, tickling the girl's belly. The little child laughs wildly, pushing Leo's hands away. "Mommy, stop! That tickles!"

A laugh escapes Leo's mouth, and she kisses the kid's forehead. I can finally see the glint of a wedding ring on her left hand.

"Are we ready to go?" The man says, wrapping an arm around Leo's waist.

She smiles warmly up at him, placing her lips on his cheek. "I suppose we are, darling."

I turn away from the growing family, a tear running down my cheek as I hear her say, "I love you."

She finally said it, those three little words, but they weren't for me, and that broke my heart.

aw poor baby

It's done!

I honestly was so tired of writing this as soon as I got to like chapter six because I came up with a new idea, so hopefully that story will be out soon :)

Thanks for reading!
