I slept in until almost noon. Last night I was up late at a friend's house with my dad and sister, at a Halloween party. We came home at midnight and I fell asleep at about 1:30 am.
I hung up some new roosts in the chicken runs today, rearranging or replacing the old ones. Soon I'll start adding little forts and stuff in the enclosures for the chickens - they get bored in the winter and like to have places to hide and roost.
This afternoon, my dad dragged me and my sister on a mountain biking trip around a lake nearby. I loved it.
At first, I was cold. The air was crisp and cool, and my lungs burned from both the exertion and the chilly air. The leaves crunched under my bike tires and wind whistled in my hearing aids. It was almost too loud to hear anything else, because the hearing aids are like a microphone, and the wind is someone's breath, too close to the mic.
My legs felt like fire as I pushed myself up hills, and my eyes strained with exaggerated focus as I wove between trees and avoided rocks and roots. I stood up in my pedals, balancing expertly, as my bike rolled over roots and ruts.
The trail started off steep, but once we get to the top of the ridge, it leveled out and became a smooth, meandering dirt path. The bright autumn colors were everywhere, browns and oranges and reds. I like smooth trails the best because I can go fast - and that's exactly what I did.
The smooth, flattish ground began to slope down and become more rooty as we headed back down the ridge towards the parking lot. We wove in and out of ravines as we traversed the side of the mountain.
I was hardly out of breath when we reached the parking lot. That was fun. I love the in-control feeling I get when biking through the forest. I like the puzzle of maneuvering around rocks and tree-roots, and the cool whoosh of the wind around me.Thanks for reading! That's all I have to say today. By the way, I won't update regularly or anything.... just every few days, when I get around to it.
Also, go check out my YouTube channel: Barnette's Chicken Sanctuary! I just uploaded some new videos this evening - I have some cute chicken montages, informative videos about chicken health and care, and calming nature shorts with nice music. Thanks!
