Figured it would be easier to post as a separate part rather than tacked on the end of a chapter. 

From the original end note: 

                 When planning this au, I was like, ohhh, who in the pokemon universe happens to have a murderous ancestor who looks exactly like them and has a bone to pick with their god? So it fit together perfectly. I understood going in that if I played the GTN plot twist with Volo the exact same it would come off in a super uncomfortable transmisogynistic way, so I decided to just trans Volo's gender and only ever reference her as a woman, so she's exclusively referred to with she/her pronouns throughout. Then I realised that it could probably still fall into some transmisogynistic tropes so Cynthia is also trans. They're also not the only transfem characters in this au, and this won't even be the last time they come up; they're both given way more sympathy and depth beyond this scene.

New notes:

at this point in development i had settled on it being a very loose "team flare wins" au; the reason volo is with them is because i figured lysandre would be interested in the other implied immortals in the pokemon universe. even though tlt au! volo is only immortal because of ultimate weapon fuckery instead of whatever the hell was implied at the end of pla, meaning she was born in like... 1985

(also given the world ends in 2013, it's entirely possible for a blood of eden character to be named after lady gaga's born this way. which is now a central part of pokemon xy. take of that what you will.)
