Day one of a new life

"How was the boardwalk?" Lucy asked the next morning as she walked into the kitchen, Scarlett already awake and working on cooking breakfast.

"It was nice." She replied simply and quickly as she glanced over her shoulder. Lucy gave her a affectionate look, she loved her daughter greatly and just hopes that she will find a place in Santa Carla. "I was thinking about heading back down, look for a job. Do you want to join me?"

"Well, your grandfather asked me to run some errands but I can meet you down there tonight." Lucy said happily as she walked over, kissing the top of her head. Lucy was just glad that Scarlett invited her, that there was a chance she would open back up and be more involved with the family.

"Okay, that sounds good." She barely made a reaction at the affection she received. She put some bacon, eggs and toast on a plate and passed it to her mother. The young girl grabbing four more plates for Michael, Sam, Grandpa and herself.

"Come on boys!" Scarlett called up the stairs where she knew her brothers were probably still curled up asleep. "Why?" She heard Sam's tired voice call back towards her.

She couldn't help but roll her eyes at her younger brother. "Food!" She simply said and that was enough, the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs.

Michael, Sam and Grandpa all appearing. "Well good morning." Her voice was tinged with amusement as she sat the plates on the table after putting the food on. "You are amazing." Sam told her with sleepy eyes and a tired grin.

"I know." A small smirk tilted her lips up as she replied, fixing her own plate before sitting down next to Michael. The oldest boy looking over at her, he searched her face to see she didn't appear to sleep much last night. A tiredness still in her dark honey brown eyes. As she lifted a piece of bacon to her mouth he noticed the charcoal that still clung to her fingers after hours of art, the slight stain never seemed to vanish as she always had a pencil in her hands.

"Did you enjoy the boardwalk Michael?" Lucy asked her son, pulling his attention away from Scarlett. "Oh um, yeah, yeah." He said with a slight nod. He hadn't really spent time at the boardwalk just searching for a job and yet when he returned he found her with three guys around her; sure two were their brother's age but that was besides the point.

Scarlett could feel Michael's eyes on her, so she looked towards him and arched a eyebrow in a questioning manner. The older boy's head tilting as if he was implying "are you going to tell her about your new friends" she could see that in his eyes

She gave him a small shake of her head, she knew that Lucy wouldn't care about her hanging out with any of them, she would just be glad that Scarlett found some friends. Plus she didn't need any of them knowing how her sleep was stolen by these boys, that something seared them into her mind.

After breakfast she stuck around the house long enough to help clean as well as unpack some of her things, bit was after lunch that she finally left to head towards the boardwalk.

She pulled out a cigarette, placing it between her lips as she struck the match. Today was about job hunting and potentially finding a place to fix up her bike or at least by the parts for it.

As she walked she saw a place called Max's video store, the help wanted sign catching her attention so she turned in that direction.

She walked in to see a rather pretty lady behind the counter, the woman offering her a smile. "Hi, how may I help you?" She asked in such a cheery manner. Scarlett looked towards her before gesturing towards the window. "I saw the sign." She informed.

"Oh wonderful! I'm Maria, we have two positions open one is a morning shift and a night shift." Maria leaned closer towards her. "The night shift is the better one, it's from 5-8 since Max closes himself."

Scarlett hummed softly as she took that into consideration, night would be better for her and mornings for her mom. "Well I could fill out a application, I'm Scarlett." She offered her hand out which Maria gladly took.

"No need, I'm sure Max would be thrilled to have you on board." The beautiful woman commented. Scarlett was shocked at how easily she got the job at the video store, she would have to bring her mom in as she figured it would be a good job for her as well.

The sun was starting to set as Scarlett finished up talking to Maria, she was gonna wait around for her mom as well as her brothers.

She sat down as she thumbed through the sketch book she had, she was slightly annoyed that all she saw was the faces of those strange boys, but it was something that got them from her mind for a bit and yet now she had no space while she waited so another cigarette was lighted as she placed it back between her lips.

"There you are!" She heard Lucy say from a distance, Scarlett quickly throwing the unlit cigarette away. Scarlett stood up to look at her, offering a hint of a smile. "Come on, I think I found us a job."
