Y/N was the new girl on the block. She moved here with her parents, for some reason, she never bothered to ask.
As she's exploring the neighbourhood she comes across a BBQ joint with a help wanted sign stuck to the door.
She stands there debating for a bit before sighing and pushing the door open.
She goes up to the register and the two workers there didn't seem to register her at first because they were too busy engaging in conversation to notice.
"Staring at your phone isn't going to change things."
"I just missed the sound of her voice." He fawns.
"Are we talking about the same Monse...oh my god," One of their eyes widened in horror when they saw her standing there.
Both of them stand upright as she smiles awkwardly and sending an even more awkward wave.
"Sorry to interrupt."
"No. How can we help you?"
She uses her thumb to point over her shoulder towards the door, "I saw your help wanted sign."
"Yes! You're hired!" He exclaims with exaggerated hand gestures.
"I'm Jamal and this is Cesar. And you are..."
"Y/n, nice to meet you guys. Uhm..." she purses her lips, "when can I start?"
"You can start now if you want."
She snickers at the offer and nods, "okay then."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Great, let me get you a shirt." He says and disappears to the back as she rounds the counter and puts her bag underneath.
"So...what exactly do I do here?"
She looks over at Cesar and he's still on his phone, he's texting and deleting a long paragraph.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
He looks up from his phone with a raised brow.
She gives him a tight lipped smile, "sorry."
"No, you're definitely right."
He shuts his phone and stuffs it into his pocket.
"She hasn't messaged me so why would it be any different if I sent her another text?"
"A massive text. Seems like she's ghosting you though."
"You don't know, she's not like that." He says defensively
"You're right. I don't know who she is. I can only tell you what I can see."
"Alright, mystery woman. What do you see?"
She purses her lips and takes a step closer as he could only watch her movements.
"You're hot, I'm not blind. So if she's not texting you back then it's her loss." She says softly, just enough for him to hear. "Because if I had someone like you, I wouldn't let you go."
His breathe hitches slightly as she smirks at his reaction.
She shrugs, stepping back, "that's just my opinion anyway."
Jamal comes back with her shirt as she puts it over her tank top. Jamal looks at Cesar who was still frozen in the same spot, wide eyed.
"What's wrong with him?" He whispers to her.
She shrugs, "might be about that Monse girl."
"He's a lovesick fool. Don't mind him."
