Giyuu's eyes widened at his unexpected statement. It was a lot to process, and the sincerity in his voice struck her deeply. A smile broke across her face, and she leaned in to place a gentle kiss on his forehead. "That's sweet of you, but I already took precautions," she said softly, brushing her fingers through his hair, trying to calm the tension in the air.
"You did?" Sanemi asked, confusion flickering in his eyes.
"Yeah," she replied, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "I mean... we're not teenagers. We're old enough to understand these things, aren't we?" Her tone was light, but her gaze held a seriousness that mirrored the depth of their conversation.
"Let's eat breakfast," Giyuu said as she gently got up from Sanemi's lap.
They ate quietly, the peaceful morning surrounding them. After they finished, Giyuu took the plates to the kitchen and returned with her phone in hand.
Sanemi was watching her, an unusual softness in his gaze. "Giyuu, I wanna—" he started, but before he could finish, the doorbell rang.
Giyuu's eyebrows knit together as she walked to the door. She opened it, and her eyes widened in surprise.
"Nee-san?" Giyuu said, staring at her sister.
"Hi, Giyuu," Tsutako replied, smiling brightly as she stepped into the room. Right behind her was her husband, Haruto, who grinned as soon as he saw Giyuu.
"Hi, Giyuu! How are you, sweetheart?" Haruto said warmly, pulling Giyuu into a bear hug.
Giyuu blinked in shock, pulling back from the hug. "What are you doing here? No, wait—what's going on? You were supposed to be in the hospital!" she said, staring at him with wide eyes.
Haruto laughed, waving a hand dismissively. "Well, I'm fine now," he said, flashing her a charming smile.
Tsutako walked in, her eyes landing on Sanemi, who was sitting calmly in a chair. She then looked back at Giyuu, raising an eyebrow.
"Is he your new boyfriend?" Tsutako asked, her tone teasing.
Giyuu blushed. "Yeah—no—I mean, sort of," she stammered awkwardly, stealing a glance at Sanemi. He looked at her, his expression hard to read, though there was a flicker of confusion in his eyes.
"Forget about him," Giyuu quickly changed the subject, "tell me what's going on with you two. What's happening?"
"Well, in short," Tsutako said, picking up a jar of water and pouring herself a glass, "he wasn't actually sick. He just... made that up."
Giyuu's eyes widened. "Wait, what do you mean 'made it up'?" she asked, turning her gaze to Haruto, who was looking all too proud of himself.
Haruto chuckled, running a hand through his hair. "I missed my wife," he said with a shrug. "I love her. How was I supposed to live without her? So when I told her to come back, she said no. I had to do something, right?"
Giyuu's mouth dropped. "So you faked being sick?"
"Yep!" Haruto said, his chest puffed out like he'd just won a prize.
Giyuu rolled her eyes just as Haruto walked over to Sanemi, extending a hand. "Hi. Haruto Ishida."
Sanemi stood up, shaking his hand with a firm grip. "Sanemi Shinazugawa. Nice to meet you."
Haruto gave Sanemi a friendly grin. "So, you're her new boyfriend, huh? Let me give you some advice—don't date her. She's dangerous."
Before Haruto could say more, Giyuu kicked him in the backside. "What the hell are you talking about? Get out of my house!" she said, glaring at him.
Haruto laughed, clearly enjoying himself. "Hey, I'm just telling the truth! But seriously, you've got two options: either you send Tsutako with me, or let me stay here."
"Neither!" Giyuu huffed, crossing her arms. "Get out."
Haruto raised an eyebrow and smirked. "That's no way to talk to me, little sis," he teased.
"Shut up!" Giyuu shot back.
Tsutako, watching the whole thing unfold, chuckled softly. "Giyuu, let him stay. I've already scolded him enough."
Giyuu sighed, finally relenting. "Fine."
Haruto's face lit up with excitement. "Thanks, sweetheart! You're the best!" he exclaimed, pulling Giyuu into another hug.
Giyuu immediately pushed him away, placing a hand on his chest. "If you're staying, you're cooking. I'll clean," she said firmly.
"I love you so much, my baby," Haruto said to Giyuu, pulling her into a hug. But Giyuu quickly stopped him, pushing him away. The whole scene was amusing, and Tsutako, watching the exchange from her seat, couldn't help but chuckle.
Sanemi, who had been silently observing their playful family reunion, shifted awkwardly. Finally, he spoke up.
"Tomioka, I think I should leave," Sanemi said, standing up, ready to go.
"Leaving?" Giyuu asked from within Haruto's embrace, her voice muffled. Haruto, too, stopped and gave her a surprised look.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow in school. Bye," Sanemi said quickly.
Haruto glanced at Giyuu, still puzzled.
"Yeah, see you soon," Giyuu replied, waving slightly. As Sanemi stepped out of the room, he groaned softly.
"Aaa, that was so awkward," he muttered under his breath as he walked outside.
Back in the room, Haruto pouted, crossing his arms. "Aww, that was rude. You should've stopped him."
Giyuu pushed him away, breaking free from his hug. "Shut up," she said firmly.
Haruto just laughed and walked over to Tsutako, sitting next to her and taking a glass of water from her. He looked at the two of them and smirked.
"You kind of suit each other," Haruto said, chuckling. "You both look like gangsters."
Tsutako laughed, her eyes sparkling. "Don't encourage them," she teased, but Giyuu could see the fondness in her gaze.
Giyuu rolled her eyes but couldn't help a smile. The room filled with a warm, comfortable atmosphere as they continued their conversation, the awkwardness of Sanemi's departure fading into the background.
Tsutako and Haruto had a love marriage. Haruto and Tsutako were college friends, and their friendship eventually turned into love. After graduation, they got married. Giyuu didn't like Haruto at first because of his immature and overly friendly behavior, but after spending more time with him, she realized he was a good person and perfect for Tsutako. Giyuu and Haruto have a very friendly relationship, much like Tom and Jerry. They constantly bicker, but they care deeply for each other.
