Accepting A Challenge

Well the floor is all yours my sister" Zayn said as the three got comfortable, Zayn sitting on the loveseat in the office with Liam sitting right next to him. Nicola sitting on the long couch by herself.

"Well I wouldn't ask this of you if I wasn't absolutely desperate or if I didn't think you could handle it." She started cautiously.

"But there's this little girl that I was assigned to 6 months ago and I need a place for her to stay."

"A little girl? You do realize we have 8 boys?" Zayn asked her with a confused tone in his voice.

"I know Zayn. But I'm really desperate to place her."

"Why? Aren't there enough homes that take girls?" Liam asked.

"Well yes... But..." Nicola was tripping over her words at this point.

"Okay what are you trying to not tell us about her" Zayn interjected his detective mode obviously kicking in and reading between the lines.

"Ugh you're such a cop Zayn" Nicola complained.

"And a very good one at that" Liam beamed with pride.

Nicola rolled her eyes at Liam, "Okay okay here it is.... her name is Amelia Keith she's 12 years old she's currently in juvenile hall."

"Oh my God what did she do?" Liam exclaimed.

"It wasn't her fault she didn't start it. But she was there because of fighting with her foster sister, she punched her in the nose and broke it" Nicola started to explain.

"No, no, no, not having some violent girl in this house with all my boys, that is a recipe for disaster. Actually putting a girl in here with 8 boys is a recipe for disaster, period," Zayn pointed out firmly.

"I'm sorry we can't help here Nicola, that is too big a risk. Liam and I work hard to keep the boys in line. I mean hell 5 spankings were handed out before you got here." Liam blushed when Zayn included him in the number of those spanked that morning.

Nicola didn't miss the reaction of her brother but decided now wasn't the time to address it "I know I'm asking a lot but please hear me out before you say no," Nicola begged Zayn.

Zayn sighed and Liam spoke up "Go ahead explain more of what's going on."

"Like I said she didn't start the fight the other girl did but she happened to be the foster parents biological daughter so they sided with her and told the police officers Amelia attacked her unprovoked. I had to investigate it myself since Amelia swore to me she was only defending herself." Nicola insisted.

"What reason did you have to believe her?" Zayn questioned.

"Thanks to my detective father and brother/brother-in-law, I followed the facts. Amelia showed me several large bruises on her stomach." Nicola paused as Liam gasped at the unknown girl's injuries.

"She said she was laying on the floor watching TV when the girl attacked her, kicking her in the stomach several times before she was able to get off the floor and defend herself."

Nicola went and spoke privately with the other to foster girls and they both confirmed Amelia's story and begged to be put somewhere else they reported to her some horrible things that the parents were doing to all of them as well.

"Poor thing. I'm sorry I was so quick to judge her" Liam claimed.

Nicola went on to explain how Amelia's parents died suddenly 3 years ago in a car accident. She has had a hard time adjusting to foster care. She has run away from several foster homes and has gotten into some trouble.
