Yn's pov

The sterile scent of antiseptic hung in the air as I settled into the small break room of the hospital. Sunlight streamed through the narrow window, illuminating the faded blue tiles and the small round table where my friends and I usually gathered. Today, I was talking to Kate, my best friend and work buddy, while the chatter of the hospital buzzed outside.

“Did you see Dr. Miller’s face when he realized he forgot to sign off on the patient charts?” Kate giggled, her dark hair falling over her eyes as she leaned in closer, an infectious smile spreading across her face.

I chuckled, shaking my head. “I swear, if he were any more scatterbrained, we’d have to start keeping a leash on him.”

“Yeah, or a GPS tracker,” Mark chimed in, smirking. “He’d probably lose that too.”

The laughter that filled the room was a balm to my worries. With every day spent here, I felt more at home, surrounded by the people who made the long hours bearable. Jackson joined us, the playful banter continuing as we shared stories about our patients and the day’s mishaps.

“Hey, Y/N,” Mark said casually, glancing at me. “How’s everything with Sarah? You two seem a bit... off lately.”

I felt a tightness in my chest at the question. “I mean, we’re fine. Just busy, you know?” I tried to sound convincing, but even I could hear the slight tremor in my voice.

Jackson raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. “C’mon, we’re your friends. If something’s bothering you, you can tell us.”

“It’s just...” I hesitated, glancing at Kate for support. “Sarah’s been a bit possessive lately. She gets jealous of any time I spend with you guys, even just hanging out.”

Kate nodded, her expression serious. “That’s not healthy, Y/N. You deserve to have your own friends without feeling guilty.”

Mark added, “Yeah, it sounds like she’s being a little toxic. You need to communicate that with her.”

I sighed, knowing they were right. “I just don’t want to hurt her feelings. She really is a good person, but sometimes, I feel like I’m walking on eggshells around her.”

“Just be careful, okay? You shouldn’t have to feel like that,” Jackson said, concern etched on his face.

Before I could respond, the door swung open, and Sarah walked in, her expression immediately shifting the atmosphere in the room. “What’s going on in here?” she asked, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked at me and my friends.

“Just catching up, you know,” I said quickly, trying to diffuse the tension.

Sarah crossed her arms, her posture radiating possessiveness. “Y/N, we need to get going soon. I thought we had plans for dinner tonight?”

“Yeah, we do. Just... giving them a quick update,” I replied, trying to keep my tone light.

“Are you sure? You look like you’re having too much fun,” she said, shooting a pointed glance at my friends. “You could always hang out with them another time.”

I felt the familiar pang of anxiety at her tone, but I plastered on a smile. “No, it’s fine! I’ll just be a minute.”

“Make it quick,” Sarah insisted, her voice firm, and I knew the discussion was over.

As she turned away, she leaned down, capturing my lips in a possessive kiss. “Don’t keep me waiting,” she murmured, her eyes intense. I felt the heat of her jealousy, and I nodded, feeling a mix of affection and anxiety.
