'TW: death, grief, anxiety, a lot of negative emotions, form of self harm but no explicit self injury, attacks.
On the central room of The Monastery sat a wide screen. A small picture of each of the Ninja sat in columns with their heart monitors. All of them were respectively beeping at their own fast pase. Wu sat in a chair, facing towards it, eyes unblinking as he watched the line spike quicker and quicker for each of them. Misako was next to me, standing with a book in her arms. My eyes flickered from the screen to the words on the page. Ronin was leant against the wall, playing with a pack of cars in his hand. I could hear it flapping every so often, it annoyed me so much. He was sent here by them as a trade for the Scroll of Airjitzu, couldn't he have a little more care?
"Their oxygen levels are low," Wu announced darkly, his finger tapping against his chair.
"What?" I panicked, "What does that mean?"
"They're not breathing,"
Oh my god it felt like I no longer could. They weren't breathing? Why were they breathing? How weren't they breathing?
"Sensei Yang is said to put his students through their extreme fears," Misako trailed her finger down the words, "Whatever it is, it's intense,"
I fidgeted anxiously. My eyes stared back at the screen. There was one person's picture that had dulled out, the heart monitor showing a flatline. I clenched my jaw and looked away. I had to remind myself that he wasn't dead, he wasn't dead the tracker was just out of his arm. There was a difference.
I glanced over to the book, Misako seemly noticed because she changed the angle of her hold so I could see better. Iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student. That was ominous. The Ninja usually said that brother sharpened brother, that sounded a lot more welcoming. They shaped each other and learned through each other. That was what made them so strong as a team.
Misako flipped a page, making a worried sound at the back of her throat."What time is it?" She asked loudly.
"5?" Ronin replied, huffing to check his watch that had definitely been stolen, "It's 5:36,"
"Why is that important?" I frowned, looking at her.
"There's an old myth, it might not be true but it's best to not take risks. If they don't get out of there when the clock strikes 6 then..." The words died in her throat, "Then they'll be trapped there,"
"They'll make it," Sensei seemed confident.
"But what if they don't know that?" I worried, picking at my nails, "What if they don't know?"
"Have faith Nora," He responded calmly.
How could I have faith when the possibilities were endless? I bit my lip as I stared at the screen. All at once, their monitors went from 100bpm to 130 and 140. What had happened to them? Were they running or were they scared? What were their fears? Could it be that bad? I just wanted them to be okay.
