Have you ever looked more closely at the effect of a tear?

I mean, as soon as you or someone else starts to cry, the whole situation changes immediately.

Example needed?

Both parents are yelling at their child because they did something stupid.

The child starts to cry.

The parents now have the following decision to make:

a.) Get even angrier and scream louder

b.) Realize that you were too harsh and apologize to the child

c.) Becoming silent and continuing to claim it is the child's fault because one does not want to admit having made a mistake

Or another example:

You have a fight with a friend. It escalates and he/she gives you a hard slap, causing your cheek to start hurting. Tears well up in your eyes.

The question now is: How will he/she react to it?

a.) Startle and recoil in shock, unable to comprehend what just happened.

b.) Claim that nothing happened and you were just being dramatic so that he/she doesn't get into trouble.

c.) Apologize

d.) Continue arguing and stubbornly insist that he/she is right

But wait a moment. That sounds like it's always someone else's fault.

The real question is rather:

What would you have done?
