-Tongues & Teeth by The Crane WivesTruthfully, being a baby is a very boring time in Kaeli's new life. She's feed, thankfully, with a bottle everyday on time and also very humiliating checked on to make sure she'a wearing clean diapers(she blocks out that experience every time it happens for the sake of her mental capacity.) The maids come and check one her every so often during the day to make sure she's okay, but most of time Kaeli is blankly staring at the spinning mobile above her crib or sleeping, which is actually very nice in her opinion.
The only issue is her new family.
Now Kaeli doesn't hate them it's just....hard to accept them when she already had a family, in her old life. When she thinks of her mother she thinks of a short pudgy woman with black hair and brown eyes which dressed like a grandma from the 70's and loved eating sweets even though her doctors advised her to stay away from them. When she thinks of her father she thinks of an equally short man with a lean body, black hair and hazel eyes who wore glasses and wore whatever what was in his closet no matter how much his wife nagged to dress better and was a gluten for sea food.
Not a woman with long curly red hair and gray eyes who dressed in fancy and almost regency era green and yellow dresses, who was loud and much to over affection. Her father wasn't a man with black hair and eyes as golden as the very material used to make jewelry and was a worrywart and had a knack for cracking awkward jokes, most importantly Kaeli never had a brother, she was only child because her parents never wanted more them one child and Kaeli had never minded it growing up because she had multiple cousins who lived nearby who she was close with and she had her childhood best friend who was a sister to her in everything but blood.
And it makes her feel worse when they hover over her, she already feels like she stole an innocent persons life, This body that she was basically shoved in without any warning could have grown up to be a normal kid or functioning adult but no. Kaeli was here now and it didn't make her feel any better when the parents of this baby are clearly worried about her behavior because evidently, Kaeli does not act like a normal baby.
She doesn't react much, she doesn't try to babble or even move most of the time. She's silent, she only makes the most noise when she needs to be (embarrassingly)changed and bathed, she eats without a fuss, sleeps without an issue and most importantly she doesn't cry. Not once has Kaeli shed a tear or made any indication that she would in front of her new parents or the servants tasked with taking care of her, she sees the worry when her mother has the time to come visit her nursery and feed her, she sees it in her father when he comes to spend time with her by himself or with his wife to accompany him.
The one she has the least issues with would be Darrick, her supposed older brother. He's a child, a five year old who doesn't understand babies at all as his brain is more focused on the prospect of just having another person to play with, which Kaeli can deal with and at most she tolerates him and lets him do whatever he wants so that he can leave her alone later, but.....god. He can be just as annoying as the parents, at least the servants she can get used too.
"Connie" The black haired child coos at her who is notably not supposed to be called Connie and is instead Kaeli, so with that very sentiment she pointedly doesn't react or acknowledge the small child laying in front of her "What color should i draw the bird?" He asks innocently, rolling different colored crayons towards her small infant body. Its only been three months since she's been born and her parents have noticed that she's more advanced then regular babies so they've started trying to get her to be more active but she doesn't really care or want to do much of anything they want.
At the remembrance of how long she's been here her mood immediately sours. She stares at the crayons childishly offered to her and attempts to swat at them but the act isn't quick nor is it anything nearly as fatal. "Go away" She had attempted to say but it had only resulted in regular baby babble and the sneer she attempts to make had looked nothing intimidating and merely adorable, Darrick only smiles back and fawns over her, blissfully unaware of her attempts at his self-esteem and her large want for him to go away.
Stupid sunshine stereotypes, haven't they followed her enough in life?
Kaeli continues to- or well, attempts to continue glaring at Darrick and kick at the crayons with her tiny, stupidly hard to move baby feet. Darrick frowns for a quick moment before he sits up and stares down at Kaeli "you don't want to color huh?" He asks her and Kaeli stops moving to stare up at him, is he finally going away? Did the kid get the hint she wasn't in the mood to play kid games? That she wants him to go away?
Kaeli makes an intangible noise and flops her hands, Darrick tilts his head and hums thoughtfully before smiling down at her "oh i know! How about i show you my history book? I was supposed to doing my lessons but that sounded boring......" He pouted at the last part, Kaeli would make a more aggressive noise to scare off Darrick but she relented. A history book? That could actually help her out and give her information on where she is, the most Kaeli knows is that her parents are rich, they have servants, they live in a big house and can afford for all three family members to wear different colored regency era fashionable tailored suits and dresses everyday that actually fit them.
After not saying anything in baby disagreement, Darrick sits up and rushes over to the rocking chair stuffed in the corner of Kaeli's room and grabs a brown hard hard cover book. He heads back to where Kaeli is sitting on the floor and carefully grabs her so he could position her in his lap and opens the book to start reading to her, what she gathers from him is that they reside in a country ruled in the Yavaria empire(which was eerily familiar to her) and that there are three dukedoms that support the royal family.
Darrick tells her they are the Moreau family, they specialize in swordsmanship and are the founding fathers of the current swordsmanship technique, They produce the swords that the knights use and are the biggest investors for the empires military. Most members of the house go off to be generals, military officers, or right hands of the royal family like they're father is right now "Daddy's known the King for a long time" Darrick happily said as he pointed at a drawn portrait of the both of them in the book.
Their father stands next to the king in a painted portrait, the king had brown hair and purple eyes which also made her pause and start scraping through her brain on why everything Darrick was telling her was making her brain itch, like she was supposed to remember something or be familiar with it.
"Now that i think about it......oh yeah! Queen Viviana just gave birth to the second prince a few weeks ago, they named him Xavier so maybe you'll have someone your age to play with Connie!"
This is the last novel she read.
She's in the Jeweled Commoners secret, the same book she dissed in her past life for a trashy ending.
God fucking damn it.
