𝘼𝗡𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗔’𝗦 day would’ve been a normal wednesday. would have. she sent her aunt the lyrics as soon as she finished, which made the woman quickly go on live and jump around on the trampoline in her backyard for twenty minutes.
but today, with the song dropping in just two days she was now extremely busy. she found herself in texas, horseback riding at nine in the morning. she didn’t understand how this was supposed to help her but she wasn’t complaining.
“i don’t understand why we couldn’t get on horses in connecticut.” anastasia voiced, rubbing the large animal’s head. “because i was already in houston and there’s nothing to do up there.” veronica shrugged. “there is. it’s just half an hour away from campus.” she corrected quickly.
“yeah. why there of all places?” veronica asked, referring to the choice of uconn when she applied for colleges. “i don’t really know. but i think the main reason might’ve been because gali was going.”
gali and anastasia became friends when she first moved to stay with her aunt in tampa, florida. she was fifteen and confused. gali approached her with that bubbly attitude she held now. they got separated once she moved but kept in contact. once gali let her know she’d be applying to go to college in ct, she quickly applied to uconn along with colleges in other states.
thankfully, they were both accepted.
“she could’ve applied to some places like georgia or something.” she stated, opening the gate for the two to enter. anastasia shook her head, watching as her aunt mounted the horse before doing it herself. she’d done it plenty of times before to know what she was doing. the horses trotted around the field slowly while the two talked.
“what if you said you were coming out as a country artist?” veronica suggested. “my following would go down. like drastically.” anastasia answered quickly. it suddenly felt like her aunt was throwing questions around to drift from something bigger. “what's up? it feels like you're beating around the bush.” the college student was now determined to get an answer.
“i’m trying to butter you up. i’ve got good news and bad news.” veronica admitted. anastasia looked over at her with furrowed brows. “what is it?” she asked. there was a thin line between good and beneficial in anastasia’s life. good helped her and beneficial helped her career.
“two good things— you no longer have to work with kiran.” when the words left her aunt's mouth, she would have screamed with joy. the only thing stopping her from doing so was the possibility of scaring the horses. “really- how come?” she questioned. “her people want to leave the whore narrative behind. she's entering her lover girl era with joanne depp. they've been talking for a while and they're thinking about going public, so you're free from those shackles.”
“oh, thank god. i almost strangled her last week.” anastasia started getting a quick laugh out of her aunt. “and the next good thing. jazmine sullivan wants to work with you.” veronica said it so casually like it was a normal thing but it in fact was not. anastasia worked with a few big artists but nothing would compare to working with singers she actually enjoyed listening to.
