Rosabella's POV

Growling.

Harsh resonating gnarls that sounded like rumbling thunder were all that could be heard for, possibly, the next 40 meters.

After I told Di to go look for help, I was both happy and scared. Happy she was successfully out of harm's way and scared because of ... obvious reasons.

I looked back at my opponents and matched them up.

They were way bigger than me, this meant I could outrun them. Even though I was practically kept hostage in my pack, I was thankful that Carter didn't isolate me from the pack, so from time to time we went out on pack runs and I later realized that because of my lean and small wolf figure, I was generally the fastest wolf in my pack.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of the rouges charge at me. He was going for my neck, but I side stepped him just in time. Now it is on.

I tackled him when he had lost his footing and dug my claws into his back, which left a decent sized gash. This didn't seem to faze him though, and this time, all three of them were charging at me. At this, I turned on my paws and ran deeper into the forest.

My plan was to have them chase me and split up, which would make fighting them a lot easier. Another skill I picked up was stealth. I was very light on my feet, hardly creating any sound.

Even as I was running, I made sure to keep them at earshot. After some time, they got confused and, to my delight, split up, probably thinking they could take me on individually because of my small stature.

I don't know why they were so adamant about chasing me, but that was the least of my worries right now.

"I don't think I want to have their blood in my mouth. Do you mind fighting the rouges, Gloria?" I asked when I realized I would have to bite them.

"I don't mind even though I am not thrilled at the idea of having to taste their disgusting life source." She says, and I can imagine the look of repulse on her face, which made me chuckle.

"Okay, you can have control now."

*********
Gloria's POV

It felt good to be back in my true form. There was just something so liberating about it. But enough of that and back to the situation at hand.

When I was sure the other rouges had gone far away, I went after my first victim. As I cautiously trudged the autumn floor, making sure to avoid crunching the leaves underneath my paws or snapping a dry old twig, I carefully surveyed my environment to locate the rouge.

When I stood still, I heard it...... crunching leaves.

Got you.

The rogue lumbered through the forest, his steps heavier than I expected. I crouched behind a wide oak, coiling my muscles like a spring.

Not the neck, I reminded myself. Too risky. My eyes locked on his hind leg, his stride just slow enough for me to time my strike.

As he passed my tree, I leapt, clamping my jaws around his scrawny ankle. He let out a guttural snarl, twisting to snap at me.

But I didn’t let go.

Instead, I bit down harder, feeling the brittle crunch of bone beneath my teeth. His whimper was sharp, almost pitiful.

This wasn't enough to bring him down though. I danced around him as he stumbled, his weight wobbling on three legs. The moment he tried to lunge, I darted for the other ankle, my teeth sinking in with precision. Another snap. This time, he collapsed, his growls dissolving into pained gasps. One down. Two to go.

I left him there, growling and whimpering to find my next target.

This one was more challenging to find, because it actually required me looking, but I eventually found him. I realized this was the one that I scratched up a bit.

It was the same trick as before, but this time, I hid behind a huge rock. He seemed a bit sluggish, and I realized that was because he had lost a significant amount of blood from another gruesome wound along his abdomen. That looked painful.

Taking him down was actually easy. His very significant amount of blood loss combined with the shock from snapping one ankle, he passed out. If I am being realistic, I am pretty sure he would be dead soon since no one would help a rouge.

At this, I felt a pit form in my stomach. No one would help a rouge.

As I thought about this, I broke out in a cold sweat.

I really hope that my statement is not at all true for the sake of my sister and I.

I was so engulfed in my thoughts that I didn't notice the crunching leaves or the sounds of the birds in a frenzy. By the time I had noticed, it was already too late. I felt blood run out of the huge gash on my side made by the rouge. As I was still stunned, he pushed me down on my back and was snapping his teeth in my face.

This brought me out of my trance, and I used my hind legs to push him off. As I tried to stand up, I felt tired and drowsy, probably from losing so much blood from the wound. It was then that I realized that if I was to get out of here alive, I would have to kill him.

He stared at me and then looked up to the sky and started howling, probably in victory. This was my chance. I rushed towards him and locked my jaws around the underside of his throat, and with the last ounce of my strength, I bit down. Hard.

He thrashed around, but the adrenaline pumping in my blood made me hold on tightly. I finally let go when I heard the satisfying crunch I had been waiting for.

At this, I fell down, feeling the adrenaline reduce, bringing me down from my high. Sparkling stars and black dots decorated my vision, luring me to a deep sleep. Before I slipped into a seamless sleep, I was graced with a loud growl that was oddly... comforting?

Was it help, or something else. Something dangerous.

"Di... I hope you find help and...stay safe. ". Before I could start overthinking, the ringing in my ears got louder and the banging in my head for stronger.

At this. It. All. Went. Black.
