Third Person's POV

Hiraya High was always alive with energy, but for Jaze Ramil, today felt different. She was nervous. Not the kind of nervous that came before a big school event, but the kind that twisted her stomach when she thought about Sydney Simonte.

Sydney wasn’t like the girls Jaze usually hung out with. She was quiet, hardworking, and completely unimpressed by the social hierarchy of Hiraya.

For months, Jaze had been secretly helping Sydney. Leaving little gifts, replacing ruined books, and dropping off notes of encouragement whenever Sydney faced one of the cruel pranks her classmates pulled on her. Sydney had no idea who was behind the kindness, but Jaze had finally revealed her secret after one brutal prank, and now she was determined to win Sydney over properly.

The problem was, Sydney wasn’t exactly making it easy.

It was lunchtime at Hiraya, and Sydney was quietly eating at her usual spot in the corner of the cafeteria. She didn’t mind being alone.

In fact, she preferred it. But Mikee Fernandez, always on the lookout for some entertainment, had other plans.

"Hoy, prank time," Mikee whispered to Shania and Andie, her mischievous grin already in place.

"Si Sydney na naman?" Shania asked, glancing at Sydney.

Mikee smirked. "Why not? She’s always so serious. Baka kailangan niya ng konting excitement sa buhay."

Without waiting for more input, Mikee grabbed a tray of food and headed toward Sydney’s table. Acting like she tripped, she dumped the entire tray onto Sydney’s lap. The cafeteria erupted in laughter, and Sydney froze, her face burning with humiliation.

"Oops! Sorry, Sydney! Hindi ko sinasadya," Mikee said mockingly, enjoying the attention.

Sydney’s hands shook as she grabbed her bag and rushed out of the cafeteria without a word, the sound of laughter following her.

From across the room, Jaze watched the entire thing unfold, her jaw clenched. Her fists tightened under the table, and a wave of anger surged through her. She couldn’t believe her friends had done this—at harapharapan patalaga.

As soon as Sydney was out of sight, Jaze stood up, her anger bubbling over. Her friends turned toward her, confused by her sudden outburst.

"Mikee, ano bang problema mo?!" Jaze’s voice cut through the cafeteria noise, catching everyone’s attention.

Mikee blinked, genuinely surprised. "Ano ba, Jaze? It was just a prank."

Jaze’s fists clenched. "Prank?! You just humiliated her in front of everyone! Akala mo ba nakakatawa ‘yon?"

Shania frowned, clearly confused by Jaze’s reaction. "Tama na, Jaze. It’s just Sydney. Sanay na siya sa ganyan."

"Sanay na?!" Jaze repeated, incredulous. "So, because she’s used to it, it’s okay? You crossed the line."

Mikee, still not seeing the big deal, crossed her arms. "Bakit ka ba affected? Chill lang. It’s not like you care about her."

That was the last straw. Jaze couldn’t hold back anymore. "I care because I like her, okay? I like Sydney. And what you just did was cruel."
