The fall semester was in full swing at Silverwood High, and the excitement was high for the annual fall festival. Emily had thrown herself into the planning, enlisting the help of Liam, Max, Sophie, Ryan, and now Jamie—a new student who had recently joined the art club. Jamie was friendly and outgoing, with a knack for making anyone feel comfortable, and he quickly found himself fitting in with the group.

“So,” Jamie said one afternoon, pulling up a chair next to Liam in the art room as they worked on festival decorations. “Emily says you’re the guy to know for all things artistic around here.”

Liam smiled, feeling a little embarrassed but also flattered. “Oh, I don’t know about that. I just really like to draw.”

“Don’t be modest,” Jamie replied, giving him a friendly nudge. “I’ve seen some of your sketches. You’ve got talent. You’re not even doing this for school credit, right?”

“Nope,” Liam replied, blushing slightly. “Just… something I love to do.”

Max, who had been leaning against the wall, glanced over with a smirk. “Don’t let him fool you, Jamie. Liam’s basically our resident art genius.”

Liam chuckled, his cheeks tinged red as he glanced shyly at Max. He wasn’t sure when it had started, but Max’s teasing had become something he looked forward to. There was a warmth behind it, something that made him feel noticed and valued.

Emily, ever the organizer, interrupted their conversation with a clap of her hands. “Alright, team! We’re on a deadline. Fall festival decorations are our top priority.”

Sophie leaned in, arms crossed with a mischievous look. “I’ll handle the edgy stuff—paint splatters, maybe some cool stenciling. You guys can do the basic stuff.”

Ryan, who had been watching the whole exchange with a grin, plucked at his guitar strings. “Leave it to me to make sure we have music to keep things lively,” he added, his laid-back attitude blending perfectly with the creative chaos around them.

As they all dove into their tasks, Liam felt at ease. The noise of brushes, scissors, and the occasional quip from Max created a rhythm that was oddly comforting. He watched Jamie chatting with Emily, who was explaining her grand vision for the festival booth, and saw how seamlessly Jamie had slipped into the group. It felt nice to have another person who understood the joy of art.

The day of the fall festival arrived, and Silverwood Park was a burst of vibrant colors, music, and laughter. The entire student body seemed to be in attendance, milling around the booths and games that had been set up.

Liam and Jamie were setting up the final touches on the art installation, a collaborative mural that allowed festival-goers to leave their mark on the canvas. It was Liam’s idea, inspired by a similar project he’d seen online, and he was thrilled to see it come to life.

“This turned out amazing,” Jamie said, admiring the mural. “Nice job, man.”

“Thanks,” Liam replied, glancing around for Max. He hadn’t seen him since early that morning, and he was surprised at how much he wanted Max to see the mural.

Emily approached, handing Liam and Jamie cups of cider. “You guys outdid yourselves,” she said, her face glowing with pride. “The mural’s already a huge hit.”
