Eyes wide open, I slowly stepped into a place I never thought I'd see one day. Dazzled by the grandeur and unmatched beauty of the suite, I followed my new colleagues at a slow pace, looking up at the ceiling. A sapphire crystal chandelier, suspended six meters high, shimmered with a thousand reflections thanks to the light streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows, offering an exceptional panoramic view of Seoul and beyond.

"Wow," I whispered.

Suddenly, a young woman a little older than us appeared abruptly in the room. Like the other staff members, her black hair was tied back. I bowed to greet her.

"Perfect, you're here! Everything seems to be in order in the suite. You've done a good job. The agents have finished covering the floor with carpet. The royal couple wants, and I quote: a carpet as soft as a cloud. For a week, you'll have to brush it every morning to keep it looking perfect."

The team leader paused before giving me an inquisitive look. Even though her face was delicate, she exuded a certain authority. I quickly introduced myself:

"I'm Bora Choi. I've just joined the team."

"She's my Bonnie," Alan added.

The young woman sighed and rolled her eyes. Annoyed, she said:

"Why wasn't I told this morning? Management should keep me informed of things like this."

She quickly composed herself and introduced herself:

"I'm Innae, manager and supervisor of the VIP suites from the 115th to the 120th floor. Follow me, I'll introduce you to my Clyde."

Before turning away, she addressed the rest of the group while pointing to devices lying on the floor in the corner of the suite.

"Set one up in the bedroom and check that it's working properly."

"What are those machines?" Becky asked.

Our manager turned her head towards the objects in question. An irritated expression appeared on her face.

"Rather than simply having fresh air, the king insists on having purifiers installed in every room. These machines continuously diffuse mists scented with rare flower essences, which he changes according to his mood."

Like my colleagues, I showed a look of surprise.

"He changes it according to his mood?" Emil repeated in shock.

Innae nodded before inviting me to follow her.

A young man was straightening the bottom of a curtain when we entered the adjacent room.

"When were they changed?" Innae asked as she approached him.

"This morning, first thing," replied her colleague, who stopped what he was doing before turning around.

His gaze immediately fixed on me. His long hair on top, carefully styled, gave him a refined look and highlighted the slightly angular features of his face.

"She's the new staff member. Alan's Bonnie. She's going to train along with the others. I'll stay with the two of them while you handle the rest of the group, if you don't mind."

I greeted him politely. Ignoring his partner's surprised expression, the young woman turned to me:

"This is my Clyde, Hoshi. Now that introductions are done, it's time to get to work. Here, we don't have time to rest. The night shift arrives in three hours to take over."

She moved away from the young man, who resumed his task. As for me, I followed her with hurried steps through the suite.

"With your Clyde, we will proceed to the thorough inspection of the other empty suites on this floor. After cleaning, you must ensure everything is spotless for the arrival of the next guests: from general cleanliness to the condition of the furniture, the arrangement of decorative items, and the perfect alignment of sheets and towels."

I had trouble keeping up with her rapid pace, even just following her. Before leaving the room, she called Alan, who joined us at a sprint without asking questions.

For the next hour, it was a race to retain all the information. We were on our third suite. I had nothing to take notes with. Innae's tone was sharp, demanding.

"Each room has a file with the guests' preferences. If there are gifts to be given, you must follow the instructions written on it... You should always stay in touch with the food service. Room service can sometimes be overwhelmed, so you need to help... There is also event management. Some suites may be used for private parties, such as business meetings or small receptions... The bar must always be stocked..."

I was overwhelmed with instructions while Alan quietly inspected the premises. Suddenly, Innae paused after what felt like an eternity, then pulled a walkie-talkie out of her blazer pocket.

"When you go to HR, they'll give you one of these. You must always stay reachable. Communication within the company is crucial. There are 120 floors and nearly 10,000 employees keeping the Empire Queen Palace running. This device will be your best friend!"

She put the device back in her pocket, called Alan, then announced that we were going to check the supplies and inventory of towels, sheets, and branded cosmetics.
