When hearts race, the downtown teens

Part 2: first date

MAYAS POV

I had just gotten home and remembered about my date, shoot. What will I wear? What will I say? What do I do?

"Mom!?"  I yell for her, no response.
"Mom?!!!" I yell again, even louder. She still doesn't respond.

I start to go down the stairs to see if mom is down there, I reach the end of the stairs and walk around trying to find her, there she is. She's asleep on the couch. She's been sleeping a lot lately, I'll ask her about it later.

I go upstairs and throw in a blue Sparkly dress it stunning then I get ready to go out. I put on some cute blue heals to match and a blue Minnie purse my dad got me when he tried to one up my mom on Christmas, why I don't know but they do that a lot so I'm expecting a divorce soon. It hasten happened yet but I can see it coming. There always arguing about who's the better parent and one upping each other.

"Bye mom" I whisper as I put a blanket over her.
"Bye honey" she whispers back and I give her a kiss on the cheek.

I start walking to Olive Garden and I wait outside for Jake to arrive, this kid is a popular kid so it's going to be awkward.

"Hey, you look great" he says as he arrives, he just came in shorts and a t-shirt. Uh.
"You too?" Oh no, I said that so wrong.
"Sorry" I say with an apologetic face.
"It's ok" he smiles at me.
"Let's go find a table" he says grabbing my hand and taking me inside.

This already doesn't seem like much fun considering I don't even really like him. I'm just doing it because nobody else likes me, or so I thought... maybe it's just that I don't talk to anyone. Or maybe it was that I was homeschooled all my life and this year I'm in a real school, I've gotten asked out 2 times already, once in 4th period and once in last period (who I'm on a date with right now).

I start walking with him and we make it to our table and I immediately start eating the breadsticks. They were so good. The rest of the date went well but I didn't like him so when we were walking back outside I decided to tell him.

"Hey Jake?" I ask him and turns to me.
"Yeah?" He replies.
"I don't think I like you or even like you just as a person" I say playing with my hair.
"What?" He seemed upset.
"Yeah, I feel like I'm not really into you" i say, now I feel bad.
"Screw you" he says as he walks away.
"Sorry" I whisper as I but my tung, a singular tear dropping from my eye. I felt horrible.

I started walking home but stopped at the gas station on the way there. I enter the building and the bell goes off.

"Hi" the cashier greets me.
"Hi, wait..." he looks up as I say that.
"Oh my god, Rowan!" I say grabbing my candy and going up there.
"Oh, hi maya" he says with a simple wave, he seems upset. Also is 10pm on a school night, why is he here.

"What are you doing here? It's Thursday night, and 10pm" i cross my arms as he scans the item.
"I'm broke" he responds. At least he was honest.
"Thanks!" I yell and I'm about to walk out when...
"Wanna ride home?" H walks rubbing his neck.
"You have a car?" I ask pointing outside then drop my hand.
"Yeah, I've been working since I was 10" he says as he lead me outside and locks the door to the gas station. I get into the car and we drive to his house, I just walk home because we live 2 houses apart.

I walk into the driveway and I hear yelling and arguing coming from inside. On no... it's mom and dad angina.
"I want a divorce" I hear my mom say.
"I can't keep doing this!" She yells at dad.
"Baby-" my dad gets cut off.
"No John, you do this every time!" She yells again.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" he says to her.
"You've cheated on me with 6 people and you thought I wouldn't find out!" She yells at him.
I wouldn't have ever thought sad would do that, just kidding I saw this coming...
I prepare to knock on the door but I don't wanna interrupt so I fall asleep on the porch curled up in a ball crying. This is normal I don't know why I'm crying but I am.

I wake up in the morning and walk in the house, dad is passed out on the recliner and mom... I don't know where she is. I walk upstairs hoping she's in her room and she is. She's asleep curled up in a ball her eyes are red and puffy just like mine.

I go to my room and throw on a pink top with some blue cargo jeans. I leave the house and start walking but I don't see Rowan anywhere, he always takes this path. I look for him again then see him coming out of a house that had yelling coming from it, he slammed the door making me flinch. What was going on in there but I already don't like it.
