Chapter Two: A Helping Hand

I don't know how long I've been walking, but my feet hurt and I'm starting to think that this idea is foolish. Honestly. I was given a vision and so I just ran, willy-nilly into the forest.

Suddenly, a cottage appears. It's covered in vines and has trees and various plants growing all around it. A wooden fence surrounds it and I can see a dirt path leading up to a blue door. A lantern glows next to the door.

I smile. Finally-I've reached my destination. I open the crudely built gate and walk up to the door.

"Breathe, Dee, breathe," I say. "You can do this."

And so I knock on the door.

The door opens revealing a short dark haired girl with a round face. She has a greenish-blueish-brownish shirt and a multicolored skirt. Her hair hangs in a braid.

"Princess Devil!" she cries. "I've been expecting you. Come on in!"

"How did you know I was coming?" I ask. "And...call me Devil."

The girl smiles. "Sit down, Devil. We need to talk."

Her house is brightly lit, with numerous lanterns and candles. The sharp scent of herbs fills my nose. Upon looking up, I see numerous bunches of dried herbs hanging from the ceiling. Books line the walls. The strange girl clatters around and then hands me a cup of tea.

"Sit!" she exclaims. "Here's a table-a chair-your tea-my tea-my chair, okay, we're all settled."

I stare at her. "What-how-?"

"Let's just say you're not the only one with visions. I know when someone is going to visit me, and I've yet to be wrong. I also know what they seek-refuge, information, answers. Cures. Everyone comes to my little cottage seeking all kinds of things."

I nod. "Okay. Thanks..." My voice trails off as I realize I don't know her name. Oops.

"I'm Finch, like the bird," she says.

"Finch. Anyways, I was wondering if you could help with removing Pernicia's curse?"

Finch nods her head. "Okay, Devil. Let me see..." And she stands up and starts looking through various books. They pile up on the floor as she yanks them out of shelves, muttering, "Spells...Curses...no, no...that's not it...I swore I had it just yesterday...no...no...maybe it's in this shelf...no...oh wait...no, never mind..." Finch keeps pulling out books and throwing them carelessly to the ground.

"Aha!" she announces. "Pernicia: A Guidebook to what Makes this Fairy Tick. Written by me and my mother...we've been working on it for about the last couple hundred years." She turns to me. "It's essentially a journal! I'm sure that something good will be in here..." She begins to frantically flip through the pages. "Aha! Okay, Devil. Every curse has some way to revoke it, or a catch to undo it. So...the curse was meant for you, wasn't it?"

I nod. "Yeah. Angel would never have been able to stand in Pernicia's way-she's too girly and whatnot. Adventures aren't really her thing."

"People do strange things for love, but anyways. What don't you have?"

I shrug. "Friends? Romantic love?"

"And does Angel have friends, or romantic love?"

"She has lots of friends, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a lover."

"Oh," says Finch. "Well, Devil. What do you think would have been more likely for you to have, but not realize you had? Friend or a crush on someone?"

I pause. And then I know what I would be more likely to have.

"Okay, Finch. How am I going to find Angel a Prince?"

Finch laughs. It's a bubbly, almost shy kind of laugh. "I don't know, Devil. But, I'm definitely coming with you to search for one."
