The streets of Los Angeles were quiet for once, a rare lull in the usual whirlwind of city life. Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford were driving back to the precinct after a long, exhausting shift. As usual, Lucy was in the passenger seat, scrolling through her phone while Tim kept his eyes focused on the road, one hand resting on the wheel.

"Can you believe that last call?" Lucy said, shaking her head with a slight smirk. "I mean, who climbs onto a billboard to rescue a cat at two in the morning?"

Tim snorted. "Just another night in LA. But that's what you signed up for, right?"

Before Lucy could respond, a set of blinding headlights appeared out of nowhere, barreling toward them from the opposite direction, swerving dangerously.

"Tim!" she shouted, bracing herself as he tried to swerve out of the way. But there was no time-the other car was going too fast.

The impact was violent, a deafening crash of metal against metal. The airbag exploded in Tim's face, but he could still feel the sickening crunch as his body was thrown forward. Lucy, on the other hand, had taken the brunt of the crash. Her side of the car was mangled, the door crumpled inward, trapping her legs.

Tim's vision swam as he fought to stay conscious, his mind immediately snapping to Lucy. He tried to turn, to reach for her, but every part of his body screamed in protest.

"Lucy!" he rasped, feeling panic twist in his chest. "Lucy, can you hear me?"

She stirred, her face pale, blood trickling down her forehead. Her voice was weak, barely audible. "Tim... I can't... I can't move my legs."

He clenched his jaw, trying to suppress the wave of dread. "Hey, stay with me, alright? Help's coming. Just hold on."

Through the haze of pain, Tim reached out, his hand finding hers. He squeezed gently, grounding both of them in that moment. He could hear the faint sounds of sirens in the distance, but all he could focus on was Lucy's labored breathing and the weight of her hand in his.

"Don't you dare give up on me, Lucy Chen," he whispered fiercely. "We're not done yet. Not by a long shot."

As the paramedics finally arrived, prying open the wreckage, Tim refused to let go of her hand, a silent promise that whatever happened, he'd be there.
