Lorenzo

I heard my phone ring and rushed out of the bathroom. I glanced at the caller ID. Paula.

I answered the call. “Hello?”

“Thank you so much for picking Alexa up from school,” she said as quickly as possible. “I apologize for any inconvenience that must have caused you.”

“Alexa is my niece, Paula. There was no inconvenience caused. Besides I met two lovely kids that… that reminded me so much of Laura.”

“That reminds me. I saw in the news that you finally got to speak with Laura. I’ve missed her so much. Did you make things right between you and Laura?”

I shook my head, as though she could see me. “I just wish she could give me a chance to explain.”

“She didn’t want to speak with you?” Paula asked. I could hear a sad note in her voice.

“Unfortunately, yes. I hurt her so badly. I ruined her trust. I bet she hates me so much. I hate myself for everything—“

“It’s not really your fault, Lorenzo. I just wished you didn’t hide your vulnerability. But I understand Laura. I am a woman like her and I swear if this had happened to me, I’d have beaten up someone’s son to a pup. I would never forgive him, no matter what.”

“I do not think she’s ever going to forgive me or even hear me out,” I said, breaking down. People never actually believe men cry, but we do. We have feelings too and we get hurt. It broke my heart to find out she had moved on with a random guy. What if he was only after her money? What if he really didn’t care about her? I knew I messed things up but all I needed was for her to give me a listening ear.

“She’s in her healing phase, Lorenzo. You don’t expect her to act like she hadn’t been hurt by you and hear what you have to say. Nothing can make up for hurting a woman. Give it some time—“

“It’s late. She has moved on,” I drawled.

“Are you sure about that? I would never have thought Laura would get over you.”

“She has. I heard her talk to a man and you should’ve heard the way she was speaking to him. I could tell she was madly in love with him.”

“I’m so sorry to hear that, Lorenzo.”

I frowned. “I failed her.”

“Don’t think like that, Lorenzo.”

“Thanks for calling. I was about to get a shower.”

“Lorenzo,” Paula slowly called out.

“Yes,” I responded.

“If Laura has moved on, we should be happy for her. She deserves to be happy. She has been through a lot. I bet she is happy in her new relationship.”

“Of course,” I said, forcing a smile, as my fingers moved through my wet hair.

“And I think you should move on too,” Paula added.

Move on? I wish it was that easy. Laura would always be my first and last. If I couldn’t have Laura, then I bet my fate was to remain a single man for the rest of my life. “You don’t have to worry about me,” I said, letting out a sigh. “I’ll be fine, either way,” I lied.

“Alexa says hi.”

“Tell my little cute princess that uncle loves her,” I said, after clearing my throat.

“I will, Lorenzo. Bye. Take care.”

“You too. Bye,” I said and ended the call. I stared at myself in the mirror and began to reminisce about my first night with Laura.

I got back from the company, feeling exhausted.

“Mr Lorenzo dinner is ready,” Laura said, staring at me with warm hazel eyes.

“I can have dinner later,” I said, unbuttoning my shirt and approaching her.

She blushed. “You should eat something. It’s been a long day.”

“I’m so stressed out right now. My doctor actually prescribed you for me.”

She giggled. “Stop making me laugh, Lorenzo.”

I carried her up, while she crossed her legs around my waist. “Alright, I promise to stop making you laugh, tonight… because I’m going to make you scream my name instead,” I whispered. Gently, I dropped her on the dressing room table and slowly grabbed her neck. I could hear her faint breath. She was so naive and beautiful.

“You have no idea what you are doing to me, Lorenzo,” she said in a low pitched voice.

I looked down at her shaky legs and squinted my eyes. “What am I doing to you?”

“I’m wet,” she muttered.

My left hand stroked her hair, before I lowered my hand below her skirt. I felt the wetness in her underwear. My eyes flicked to her, as my strong fingers touched her clit. She let out an unexpected moan. “Do you want me to stop and go and eat?”

“NO. DON’T. PLEASE,” she said, her fingers tracing my hair.

I slid a finger into her cunt and slowly moved it, in and out.

“Lorenzo,” she moaned out, her fingers tightening as they moved through my hair.

I knelt in front of her and pulled down her underwear. “Be a good girl and spread your legs, Laura. You don’t have anything to worry about. As long as I have put a ring on your finger, I’ll marry you. You’re mine and I’m yours.”

She obeyed.

I raised her legs and placed them on my shoulders, then grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to my face. I stuck out my tongue and began to lick the wet and slippery discharge from her.

She screamed out my name. “Um.. ah, Enzo…”

The ringing sound of my phone brought me out of my reverie. I glanced at it. I thought it was a call but it was an alarm which I had set. Shit!

I dismissed the alarm and searched for Laura’s new contact number and dialed it. She didn’t pick up. It felt like she figured out I was the one calling. Or maybe it was just my imagination. After six attempts, she answered the call.

“Hello, who’s this?” I heard her ask as she sniffed. I could hear faint little sobs from her. Was she crying?

“Are you crying?” I queried.

“Who’s this?” she asked with a low voice.

“It’s me, Lorenzo. Please do not hang up,” I pleaded, as quickly as possible.

“Don’t you ever call me, again,” she said, with a teary voice.

“I miss you,” I admitted.

“Wow,” she laughed softly but I could hear the pain in it. “You miss me? What kind of a man are you? What kind of a father are you? What kind of a husband are you?”

What was she talking about?

“First you ruin my life and now you want to ruin another person’s life?”

“Laura, I don’t know what you are talking about,” I said, swallowing hard.

“Hollywood really needs you. What a great liar and actor you are,” she mocked.

“Laura, I know you're mad at me. I’ve hurt you and wronged you. I wasn’t the best husband to you but my life is so empty without you. Five years of emptiness,” I cried out.

“I hate you,” she screamed. “I hate it when you lie. Stop acting like a victim. Stop with the pretense. You have a family. A wife and kids. Stop bothering my life, Lorenzo. Never you dare call me again. And you’re blocked. Blocked.”

A wife? Kids? What did she mean? I never moved on. I could never bring myself to do so. She was my better half and the only woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. The only woman I wanted to be the mother of my kids.
