Chapter I

It was excatly one year ago, since the first mentors were sitting in a similar room.

Now it weren't ony High Schoolers who wanted just the fame of being the winner.

Everyone who wanted to be the mentor for the 12 Hunger Games had to write a letter, how to improve the Hunger Games.

The same woman that stood in the middle of the round room was the one who chose 24 mentors.

24 mentors from among old, and young. Rich and poor. Wicked and ...

My eyes locked with Snow's as we were the only one from the Academy present there.

Were we so much better from them that we were the youngest sitting here? Or we were just dellusional to still participate in this after last events?

I scoffed under my nose.

The billboard showed us how our ideas were ranked, and of course he was first, with my name written just below his.

Coriolanus Snow never changes, does he?

It was crucial what our ideas were ranked, since we could choose our tributes in the sequence in which our ideas were ranked.

I gritted my teeth looking again at the number 2. visible right before my name.

So that's why he looked at me. To show that he was still superior.

What was his idea, that it was better than mine?

As usual before choosing what district and gender we would take under our wings, we had to see the reaping of all of them.

Watching how every one of the tributes reacted to their name read out, and maybe see if someone volunteered in their place.

"I will take the boy from District 4," he said, as he didn't look at Doctor Gaul, but at me.

Was he trying to provoke me?

"Girl from District 4." My voice was confident, as it spread within the round room.

And so, 22 more tributes were choosen by other. It was to my advance, that only Coriolanus was a mentor before. Not so comforting, that some surerly had more wisdom than me.

Feeling his gaze on me I shot a glare at Snow as he was watching me.

Ever since that day we haven't talked, as we both tried to avoid each other presence. So why was he watching me so eagerly now?

I frowned my brows, as I turned my gaze towards the man, who was the mentor of the boy from District 2.

It was obvious why he took him.

As he noticed that I was staring at him, he blowed me a kiss, before Volumnia started her speech.

I noted to myself to stay away from him.

"We will add some of the concepts that were given to us to this year Hunger Games. So be prepared for little changes. Altough we won't announce which idea was whose, and how they were ranked" said the woman, as a wry smile never left her face.

She lived for the Hunger Games. It was obvious as that.

And she wanted to stir a fuss among is.

Fear among the Districts towards us was desirable, and the Capitol could achieve it only trought improved Hunger Games, while not loosing important sources.

"Tommorow will be your first meeting with your tributes. You are free for today," she announced, as she was the first one to exit the room.

Everyone stood up and they made a bunch of small circles, surerly already discussing things as truces or tactics.

Only me and Coriolanus decided to leave, making the impression that we were superior to them.

"Almost like last year." Coriolanus came up to me as I stood up. "But this time we are the only students, while the rest of them is already working."

I glanced at him withouth saying a word. We even had some lectures togheter, so why did he decide that now, after almost a year, was a good idea to talk to me?

I took my bag, and put the straps on my shoulder, as I made a step towards the exit.

"Really [Y/N]? You are still pretending not to know me?" He asked in disbelief, as he wouldn't let me in peace.

"Funny how you only care after one year what I think of you," I scoffed, intentionally turning my head the opposite way from him.

"Well, I didn't know how much time you needed to get..."

I halted, as I locked our eyes. My nostrils went wider, as I was feeling rage building up inside me.

"What do you want? Both of us know that you talk to me only now just becasue I can give you something. Propably something to do with my tribute, or the Hunger Games, so that you can win it again."
I watched his face, as it didn't flinch a bit. So he was still good a hiding his thoughts.

So was I really the only one who changed?

No.

Altough his face seemed indifferent, it could be seen in both, in my eyes and his. That we've become the people our closest family didn't approve of.

He smirked, as he run with his fingers trough his hair.

The open door was showing us a constructuin in site, as Volumnia decided that some ideas would take years to wpriwadz8c je w życie but were worht it.

Wonder what it was, that it needed to be built now.

People were walking past the room we were still in, and just a handfull of workers dared to look if someone was still inside it. Propably looking for freshest gossips, since the last one that was going around the Capitol halls was older than two
weeks.

"You changed for worse, haven't you." He whispered, as he closed the gap between us.

Immediatly as he did that, I took a step back in order to maintain the distance that was between us.

"And you stopped hiding your true colors," I snapped back at him, shoting him a glare.

How did he dare to comment whether I changed for better or for worse?

"Should I feel hurt by that?" He asked, as the corners of his lips curled slighlty up.

Only from this close could one say that his eyes were colder now. They didn't had a glimpse of warmth in them as once.

"Should you feel flatered by that, Coryo?" Giving him this question, I quickly slipped away, freeing myself from his presence as I walked onto the corridor.

Shivers went down my spine, as I tried to shake off his lifeless look at me.

It was almost the same with which Sejanus empty eyes were gazing at the polana as his neck was hugged by the rope.
