I leaned over the railing to see who is calling me. Gan Fo? And he is alone. If he is without those two, he might want to have a normal conversation but I shouldn't let my guard down, just in case.
I didn't want to yell at him from the distance and gain attention on us two by the passing students since this is Aveus and it would mean some dumb rumor could be spread around, so I walked to where Gan Fo is standing or more like hiding to talk to him.
Me: What do you need? I don't have much time because I have to get back to my research with Professor Coldos.
Gan Fo: Oh. I will walk with you then.
He offered to escort me to Professor Coldos's office. Not that I needed a bodyguard or a guide for me to get there but I didn't object. The weird part is that Gan Fo is completely silent and is not talking at all. Didn't he call me so that we can talk? I wasn't going to pry into what he wants with me, since he looked like he is deciding if he should tell me or not but the awkwardness was starting to annoy me.
Gan Fo is walking with his hands inside his pockets, looking up front and looking very focused. It would seem like he is calculating a good timing to strike and get rid of me. Maybe the trio decided to do a little act, convince everyone that they had an argument, isolate themselves from each other so that they gain pity from people and then they get rid of them when we let our guards down. No, no, no. What am I even thinking? Would anyone think of this and then actually do it? Ledon and Mairi might. I hugged the food I bought and closely watched Gan Fo to see what he is going to do. I didn't notice any change in his behavior - hands still in his pockets, looking straight and thinking about something while clenching his jaw. I thought we will just walk the whole way to the office like this but then Gan Fo finally spoke up.
Gan Fo: You are actually pretty good at toying with people.
Me: What do you mean?
Gan Fo: What you did in the classroom. You did it to made Ledon and Mairi jealous, didn't you? Especially ignoring Mairi like that. How did you know that they decided to get rid of me?
Me: Someone overheard your conversation and I could see it in the auditorium. But I meant it when I congratulated you.
Gan Fo: Why did you even bother with me? I wasn't treating you good when you were at Aveus. Was it just pity so that I feel guilty and lesser than you?
Me: Not at all. I was kinda glad to be honest. When my powers presented itself and I was treated as this prodigy, I hated it. I never wanted to stand out and be the center of the attention, I just wanted to go through the school, maybe find where I come from, how to control my powers and then live a quiet life. But now with you-
Gan Fo: You are not considered a big thing since the three of us also got Manifestations as first-years.
Me: There is still quite a lot of noise around me, being misplaced and stuff, but at least people will talk about you more now. I should thank you for that I guess.
Gan Fo: No need. And I understand how you felt. The teachers compliment us or turn the conversation towards us any time they can to point out that we might be the strongest first-year in centuries.
Me: Not enjoying the fame?
Gan Fo: Never wanted it. I just followed Ledon since I know him since I was a kid and I... nevermind that. It's over now anyway.
Gan Fo sighed and it sounded like he is genuinely sad about the situation. If he knew Ledon since they were kids and now he ditched him, losing a friend like that must hurt. I didn't want to pry into why they decided to stop being friends but Gan Fo decided to reveal it to me anyway.
