Wednesday POV:

As the door to our dorm creaked open, I felt the weight of the world slip from my shoulders. The comforting chaos of the room enveloped me, but my mind was still swirling with the events of the day. Enid's arms around me lingered in my thoughts, her warmth both foreign and familiar.

"Are you okay?" Enid's voice broke through my reverie, her brows furrowing in concern as she glanced at the cuts on her arms. The sight tugged at something deep within me, a flicker of worry I couldn’t quite place.

I nodded, though I knew it was a lie. "I’m fine. You should clean those," I said, motioning toward her wounds.

"Right, but I’d rather do it together," she insisted, her smile as bright as the sun, even in this dimly lit room.

I sighed, a reluctant acceptance slipping through my stoic facade. “Fine. Let’s get it over with.”

As we gathered supplies, my heart raced. Enid’s laughter filled the air, a soft melody that soothed the lingering tension in my chest. I tried to focus on the task at hand, but every time our hands brushed, a spark ignited between us, an electric current I couldn’t ignore.

“Hold still,” I instructed, applying antiseptic with more care than necessary. Enid winced, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she watched me with those wide, colorful eyes that seemed to see right through my dark exterior.

“Why do you always act like you don’t care?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

“I do care,” I replied, surprising even myself with the honesty. It felt strange, but somehow, it was true. “Just in my own way.”

Her blush was evident, a deep pink staining her cheeks. I felt a heat rise within me, an unfamiliar flutter in my stomach. I quickly averted my gaze, concentrating on her cuts. “You’re reckless, you know.”

“Reckless for you,” she teased, her playful tone a stark contrast to the seriousness of our situation. “I’d do it again if it meant keeping you safe.”

Her words hung in the air, heavy with meaning. I paused, the antiseptic hovering inches from her skin. “You shouldn’t.”

“Why not?” she asked, her voice unwavering.

“Because I—” I started, then stopped, the words trapped in my throat. The moment stretched between us, charged with unspoken emotions. Finally, I added, “I don’t want to lose you.”

Enid’s expression softened, and in that moment, everything felt right. I finished tending to her cuts, our fingers lingering together, a silent promise hanging in the air. As I looked up at her, our eyes met, and the world outside faded away.

For the first time, I understood the comfort of vulnerability. I was still Wednesday Addams, but with Enid by my side, perhaps there was room for something more.
