The night was thick with a mist that clung to the tall, twisted trees of Nevermore Academy. The full moon hung like a silent witness above the school, casting a cold, silver light across the quiet campus. Most students were tucked safely inside their dorms, but for some reason, Wednesday Addams found herself walking the darkened paths of the school grounds with Enid Sinclair at her side.

Enid had been insisting for the past few weeks that the full moon "made everything feel magical." Wednesday, as always, remained unimpressed by anything as trivial as magic. But there was something about the way the moonlight made Enid's vibrant colors seem even more out of place against the monochrome backdrop of Nevermore that made Wednesday's sharp eyes linger.

"You're not afraid of the full moon, are you, Addams?" Enid's voice cut through the silence. Her face was lit with a soft, glowing smile, her blonde hair almost white under the moonlight. "I mean, sure, it makes people act a little... weird. But don't worry, I'm here to keep you safe."

"Afraid?" Wednesday scoffed, her usual deadpan expression unwavering. "Please. I'm not one to be frightened by something as predictable as the lunar cycle."

Enid grinned, bouncing a little on her feet. "Well, then let's just enjoy it. Look at that sky—how can you not find it beautiful? It's like a cosmic masterpiece!"

"Beauty," Wednesday said slowly, her voice as cold as the air around them, "is subjective. What you find beautiful, I find overrated." She shot Enid a sideways glance, as if daring her to respond.

But Enid simply shrugged, unbothered. "Fair enough. But I'll still enjoy it. You should try it sometime." She grabbed Wednesday's hand, pulling her toward the garden that stretched beyond the crypts. "Come on, let's sit for a bit. The moon looks even better over there."

As they walked, the chilly air seemed to press in around them, and Enid kept up her usual cheerful chatter, trying to draw out a smile or at least a reaction from Wednesday. For the most part, it was the same as always. Enid was sunshine to Wednesday's storm cloud. But there was a small crack in the monotony tonight—a slight hesitation in Enid's voice when she spoke about her past. Wednesday, ever the observer, noticed.

"Is something bothering you?" Wednesday asked suddenly, the question sharp but not unkind. She stopped walking, her dark eyes meeting Enid's.

Enid faltered for a moment, her face losing some of its usual brightness. She looked at the ground, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her colorful sweater. "No," she said softly. "I just... I don't really like talking about home. I mean, it's not that bad, but..." She trailed off, unsure of how to continue.

For once, Wednesday didn't interrupt. Instead, she tilted her head slightly, studying Enid. She could sense the discomfort radiating off her, though Enid was trying her best to mask it with that ever-present smile.

"You don't have to talk about it," Wednesday said, her tone almost gentle. "But if you ever want to—"

Enid looked up at her, her pale eyes reflecting the glow of the moon. "Thanks, Wednesday." She let out a breath and then gave a soft laugh. "It's just... being here at Nevermore has been kind of lonely for me, you know? I mean, I'm always around people, but sometimes it feels like no one really gets me. You get me, though."

There was a quiet pause, and Enid hesitated before adding, "I guess I'm not as perfect as I try to be."

Wednesday took a step closer, her shadow falling over Enid's. "No one is perfect. Not even you." She allowed herself a small, dry smile. "But that's the beauty of it."

Enid blinked, surprised by the rare softness in Wednesday's voice. "I—uh, yeah, I guess you're right." She hesitated again, then sighed, a small chuckle escaping her lips. "I've always been the sunshine-y, 'let's be friends with everyone' type, you know? It's what I do. But... sometimes it feels like it's too much."

The soft breeze rustled the leaves overhead, and for a moment, there was nothing but the distant sound of the wind through the trees.

"I don't think you're too much," Wednesday said, her voice quieter now. "You're... different. You are a bit much at times, but that's why you amuse me." Her lips twitched as she said it, a rare and faint sign of affection hiding in her otherwise indifferent words.

Enid's eyes softened, and she couldn't help but smile. "I'm glad I amuse you, then. Because, I don't know, being around you just... it's easy. You don't judge me for trying to be happy, even if I'm hiding something."

Wednesday's dark eyes narrowed slightly, as though evaluating the moment. "I don't judge. I simply observe. And I observe that you don't need to hide from me, Enid."

Enid was quiet for a long time, before she finally looked up, meeting Wednesday's gaze with a tenderness she usually reserved for only a few people. "I... I guess I never realized how much I needed someone like you. You get me, even when I'm pretending I'm not all messed up inside."

Wednesday tilted her head, considering her words. "I don't need you to be perfect. I only need you to stop pretending to be."

The silence between them deepened, not uncomfortable, but profound in a way neither of them could explain. Enid felt the weight of Wednesday's words settle in her chest, and for the first time, she realized just how much she'd been waiting for this—this kind of unspoken understanding between them.

"Thanks, Wednesday," Enid said, her voice quieter now, more sincere.

"Don't mention it," Wednesday replied, her voice almost a whisper in the night air.

They both stood there, under the full moon, a strange sense of peace between them. Enid squeezed Wednesday's hand for a brief moment, and this time, it didn't feel like a gesture of politeness or habit. It felt... right.

They didn't need to speak further. Not tonight. The moon hung above them, the mystery of the night still in the air, and they were two very different people standing side by side, finding comfort in their own way.
