Gemstone lifted her nose up from a scroll when she heard the door open and shut.
"Mother!" She shouted enthusiastically, but when she ran around the corner, she saw her father, Bonecrusher, standing where her mother should be standing. "Hello dad!" She said. "Where's mum?" Bonecrusher stared at her, his eyes a mix of pity and disgust. You're the reason she's gone, Gemstone could hear him think. "Who's gone?" Gemstone asked, confused. "Don't play dumb with me, mind reader." He snapped.
"You already know." "Know what?" Gemstone cried, frustrated.
Bonecrusher should know that she couldn't read all of his stupid viper snorting thoughts! She was only four years old, great shining moons! Her father sighed. "Your mother.." He trailed off, staring into empty space. "What's wrong with mum? Why isn't she here?" And then she realised. She didn't have to read his mind, and he didn't have to tell her. "No.." "She is." Her father said, his voice suddenly angrier, his eyes tiny pits of fire.
"She's dead. And if you'd never hatched, None of this would've happened and she'd still be here!" "What?" Gemstone cried. "It's not my fault! Why would you blame me? How did it happen?" "Apparently she was a trespasser." He snarled. "She got in a fight and died. Happy?" Gemstone felt as if a dark black hole opened in front of her. "Now that Orca is dead, you of all dragons shouldn't be welcome here." "What- what do you mean..?" Gemstone whispered. Not welcome? "I mean," he said, "that you, have to leave. Leave this house. Leave Renewal. Leave the Night Kingdom!" Gemstone froze, processing the words. "But.." She nearly choked on her words. "What.. What if I don't want to leave? And.. Mom? Is she really dead? She can't be, right? She's Orca, dad. Orca!" "She's dead." Bonecrusher said harshly. "And if you don't like that, then go to sappy hugging school. There are plenty of them, these days. Ever since Jade Mountain.." "But what about-" "Do NOT interrupt me!" He snapped. Gemstones talons started shaking.
Why did her father want to get rid of her all of a sudden? Wasn't she his beloved Gemstone, the one he always brought with him to show the tribe, boast about what a perfect dragonet he had...
She could reveal it. She should reveal it. But she might end up like him. The dragon of stone.
"But what about prince Arctic and-" "Never, ever, say the name of that rotten IceWing." He said. "NEVER!" He shouted. "He's the reason the NightWings and the Icewings were in war those two thousand years ago- and still are, no matter what those stupid 'peace treaties' say! You understand, worm?" Gemstone was trapped between the ground and his hateful gaze. They stood like that for a moment, apparently both waiting for someone to make the first move. "Get out of this house." Bonecrusher hissed. "Out of Renewal." He waited for a moment for his daughter to walk towards the door, and when she didn't, he came even closer, so close Gemstone could see that his eyes weren't black- they where a very, very dark green.
"Get out of here." He said, slowly and menacingly. "You shouldn't be here. We don't have place in here for hybrids." Gemstone's mind started spinning. She could see a future...
She shouldn't do it.
What if it backfired?
Could he be able to tell everyone?
"Gemstone," He growled, "get out. If I have to say it one more time-" "Fine!" She snapped. "But first.." She swung her talons in a huge arc, whispering under her breath.
"I enchant Bonecrusher of the NightWings to never be able to fly again. His wings like stone, his tail paralysed. I also enchant him to never be able to speak of my animus magic, never tell anyone that I'm an animus dragon."
Bonecrusher was confused. Gemstone could hear him think about what she just said. She darted for the door, ran outside and flew away. Behind her, Bonecrusher started chasing her. "HEY!" He shouted. "What did thaAAAAH!" He jumped and tried to take off, but instead plummeted down, down, down. Gemstone shivered. Her talons felt cold. But it was summer, right? She shook it off.
It's not that important.
Now, she had to find somewhere else to stay. The Night Kingdom doesn't want her, the Kingdom of Sand is dry and hot, the Ice kingdom is way too cold, plus she's technically a NightWing..
An idea struck her. She remembered her father saying something..
'Ever since Jade Mountain...'
Jade Mountain Academy.
There are lots of hybrids there. They would accept her. As far as she knew, It was only a days flight, maybe two.
But what if there are already too many dragonets? An anxious voice whispered.
"Don't worry," She whispered. "If that's the case... then I'll just make room." But isn't that bad? The voice asked. "It's not bad if nobody remembers them. Besides, who said anything about killing? I could make them a new dragon, an egg, or I could make them want to leave Jade Mountain! Then there's nothing to worry about, right?" But... evil? The voice said.
"Oh, shush, you. You know what, I'm just going to not listen to you. you're messing with my head." Maybe a tiny bit evil.. the voice said for the last time, barely even a whisper in Gemstone's head.
If Jade Mountain wouldn't have room for her.. she would make room.

Anyways hoped you enjoyed it! I'll post the next chapter in 1-2 weeks, probably less though.
I think I made the prophecy a bit too obvious lol
What do you think it meant? Please share your ideas <3
