The wedding was set in a grand ballroom, filled with people dressed in their finest attire, with chandeliers sparkling overhead and live violins playing softly in the background. Every detail had been arranged with such precision and elegance—exactly as Dew and Nani’s families had demanded. But, for the two grooms standing in the center of all the luxury, it was hardly a joyous occasion.
Dew and Nani stood side by side, mere inches apart yet worlds away. Both donned tailored suits—Dew in sleek black, radiating his usual, aloof aura, while Nani, in a deep navy suit, maintained an expression of controlled annoyance. They had spent months clashing over every detail leading up to this day, yet here they were, brought together by family obligations rather than love or even friendship.
As the priest began the vows, Dew leaned slightly toward Nani, voice low but full of sharp edges. "Let’s keep this simple. No one has to know we can’t stand each other."
Nani raised an eyebrow, fighting a smirk as he whispered back. “Simple? Oh, don’t worry, Dew. I’ll make this act so perfect, they’ll believe we’re the happiest couple in the world.”
Dew scoffed, the corner of his mouth twitching in annoyance. “As if you could fool anyone.”
Nani met his gaze with a smug smile. “Just watch me.”
With that, they recited their vows with forced politeness, each word laced with irony. They exchanged rings like actors in a play, their fingers barely brushing as they slid the bands on. The moment the priest declared them married, they turned to the audience with practiced smiles, hand in hand, but neither daring to look at each other.
As they walked down the aisle together, they maintained the charade flawlessly, each nod and smile carefully calculated for their family and friends. Yet, as soon as they were out of the public’s view, Dew dropped Nani’s hand, his expression hardening.
“This doesn’t mean anything,” Dew said, his tone cold and final.
Nani shrugged nonchalantly, though something in his chest tightened at Dew’s words. “Relax. I know exactly what this is… and isn’t.”
They retreated to their separate corners of the wedding reception, each pretending to be occupied with mingling, though both were acutely aware of the other’s presence across the room. Every so often, their gazes would meet, a silent, reluctant acknowledgment that neither was truly happy with this arrangement.
