The First Olive Branch

A few days later, they found themselves, once again, in the kitchen at the same time. This time, however, Nani was determined not to let their conversation end in tension.

"Hey," Nani started, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "I know I’m not the easiest person to live with, and, well… I'm not really good at this, but if there's anything you need, I’m here. You know, if you ever want to talk."

Dew looked surprised, his usual guarded expression softening slightly. After a moment, he gave a small nod. "Thanks," he said quietly. "But I don’t think you’d understand."

“Try me,” Nani challenged, surprising himself with the conviction in his voice.

Dew studied him for a long moment before letting out a reluctant sigh. “Sometimes, I wonder if I’ll ever find something real… someone who genuinely cares. I had that once, with her, and now… I don’t know if I’ll ever have it again.”

Nani’s chest tightened, a mix of empathy and something warmer stirring within him. It felt strange, this sudden desire to be there for Dew. But it also felt… right.
