Vanessa walked beside Adriana, eyes flitting around as they moved through SoliTech's sleek, ultra-modern hallways. The polished walls and artificial lights gleamed in a strange, sterile way that made the whole place feel less like an innovation hub and more like a sci-fi fortress. She couldn't shake the feeling—a cold, prickling sensation down her spine. It wasn't just nerves about the date. No, this felt darker, like something was humming beneath the surface, just out of sight.
The guide, a polished woman with a permanent smile, led them past towering, glass-walled labs where scientists in white coats bustled around prototypes of new machines. Some of the labs were marked with radiation symbols, and her heart jumped a little each time she saw them. She could almost sense the radioactive material she'd been studying, as though the building itself was emitting something strange, something off.
Throughout the tour, Vanessa was hyper-aware of Adriana's presence, their fingers brushing occasionally as they walked side by side. She'd never imagined she'd be on a date with a girl—much less with someone as confident and radiant as Adriana—but there she was, navigating her nerves and this strange, unsettling feeling in her gut.
Finally, they reached the end of the tour. The guide's final stop was an exhibit for the upcoming Jenna robots, which Vanessa knew so well. But even as she admired the advanced technology, she couldn't ignore the nagging feeling creeping through her. When the tour ended, Adriana looked over, eyebrows raised.
"Did you...feel anything weird in there?" Adriana asked, glancing around to make sure they were out of earshot of the tour guide.
Vanessa felt a wave of relief. "Yes! I thought it was just me," she admitted, voice low. "It's like...there's something wrong here, something dark."
Adriana nodded, leaning closer. "I thought I was going crazy. But if you felt it too, then...something's definitely off." She paused, glancing at Vanessa's expression. "You know, I remember you mentioned once you were into science experiments and stuff. Do you think it's worth looking into all this? Like, seeing if these accusations are true?"
Vanessa hesitated but decided to tell Adriana the truth. "I...already started," she said slowly. "I did an experiment with a squirrel and a cage made from that radioactive material they're using. It got really aggressive, almost...zombie-like. It even tried to bite me."
Adriana's eyes widened. "What? That's...kind of terrifying."
"Exactly," Vanessa replied, her voice barely a whisper. "I don't know if it's enough to prove anything yet. But if these weird accusations have even a sliver of truth, I think we need to keep experimenting. Just in case."
Adriana nodded, looking thoughtful. "Let's do it together, then. If this company is doing something dangerous, we need to know. And if they're not, well...better safe than sorry."
Vanessa felt her cheeks warm. The uncertainty of this place, her experiment, and even her feelings toward Adriana still twisted in her stomach, but there was a glimmer of excitement too. Together, they would figure this out—even if that meant digging deep into the mystery of SoliTech.
