Vanessa and Adriana found a quiet corner outside the school courtyard, away from the noise of other students. Vanessa shifted her weight, looking down at her shoes before glancing up at Adriana, who looked both curious and slightly nervous.

"So...if we're going to be in a relationship," Vanessa began, searching for the right words, "I don't want it to be one of those on-again, off-again things. I don't want to break up every other week and then get back together like nothing happened."

Adriana considered this, nodding slowly. "That makes sense," she replied, then hesitated. "But what about, like...taking breaks? Like, if one of us needs space or something?"

Vanessa shook her head. "If I ever don't feel like hanging out or just can't for some reason, I'll just tell you. But I don't think that should mean we go through this whole emotional rollercoaster of a breakup every time. If we're planning to go back to each other anyway, what's the point?"

Adriana leaned back against the wall, crossing her arms, a thoughtful look in her eyes. "And...what if we have a big fight?"

Vanessa gave a small smile. "What couple doesn't have a few arguments? My parents fight sometimes too, and they still make things work." She tilted her head. "I just don't think a fight should mean we give up on us. Not if we're serious about this."

Adriana's gaze softened, but she looked away, almost as if she were afraid of what she was about to admit. "I think...maybe I'm scared of commitment," she said finally. "If I say this is a sure thing, it makes it feel a lot more real. And I don't know if I'm used to that."

Vanessa's expression softened in understanding. "That's exactly why I want this to be a sure thing," she replied, her voice gentle but firm. "If it's real, then it's not just someone messing with my emotions. I want to know that this isn't some...cruel joke, you know?"

Adriana took a deep breath and finally looked back at Vanessa, her eyes filled with something both nervous and sincere. She took Vanessa's hand, giving it a small squeeze. "Alright. If we're going to do this...let's make it a sure thing."

Vanessa's heart swelled, and before she could think too hard about it, Adriana leaned forward, closing the distance between them. It was soft and sweet, a gentle brush of lips, but for Vanessa, it was electric—her first kiss, and one she actually liked.

When they pulled back, both of them were smiling, a quiet certainty settling over them.
