The next morning, Vanessa stood in her kitchen, staring at the half-full mug of coffee in her hands. She'd poured only a small amount, cautious after yesterday's incident with the energy drink. Part of her wasn't sure this was the best idea, but curiosity had nudged her to try it anyway. If Vanessa was going to figure out the strange dynamic between her and Adriana, she thought she could use something to help her stay level-headed.

She took a tentative sip, feeling the warm bitterness settle on her tongue. She waited, expecting a surge of jittery energy or, at the very least, a slight restlessness. But instead, a strange calm washed over her, as if the coffee was soothing rather than stimulating. Her shoulders, tense from the usual morning nerves, began to relax, and her breathing evened out.

It didn't make sense—wasn't coffee supposed to make people feel wired, ready to tackle the day? And yet here she was, sipping away, feeling calm like she could handle anything that came her way.

Vanessa didn't overthink it, though. At this point, she didn't mind what was happening; she just felt grateful. She hadn't realized how much she needed this sense of calm, this tiny moment of control over the whirlwind in her mind. And if a bit of coffee could help her keep that calm—well, she wasn't about to question it.

After a few more sips, she felt ready to tackle her thoughts about Adriana. Yesterday had left her with a lot of questions, and though she didn't have answers yet, she felt a little more at ease with the idea of facing them. Adriana had been kind and understanding, even after Vanessa had passed out mid-pizza. It was odd, yes, but also strangely comforting. The idea of someone just...caring for her like that.

Vanessa took a deep breath, deciding she'd keep this coffee ritual to one cup a day. She already knew what energy drinks did to her, and she wasn't about to let caffeine get the better of her again. This little ritual was enough.

Feeling steadier than she had in a long time, she finished the last sip and set her mug down, smiling a little. She didn't know where things were going with Adriana, but she felt ready to find out.
