The reason Luke joined Kronos' Army is because of his promise. That he wouldn't hurt his family, Thalia and Annabeth. He had feelings for Thalia and knew she had felt the same. Little Annabeth looked up to him as a hero. He saved the world and died knowing he will make everyone proud of him for dieing as a hero
