Four-year-old Izuku Midoriya was, like every child his age, filled with dreams of heroism. Every day, he'd watch All Might on the TV, marveling at the strength, speed, and courage his hero displayed. He wanted to be just like him. But so far, nothing extraordinary had happened to him. Izuku couldn't stop wondering when, or even if, his Quirk would ever show up.Today, he was with his best friend Katsuki Bakugo. They were at the playground with a group of other kids, talking about what their quirks might be when they showed up. But right in the middle of talking, Bakugo suddenly gasped, a flash of light and heat filling the air."Izuku! Look!" Katsuki yelled, eyes wide as he lifted his hands, where tiny explosions crackled to life. "Look at this! My Quirk finally showed up!"The other kids gasped, some looking on with admiration, others with jealousy. Katsuki's smug grin grew as he looked down at his hands, small sparks still going off. "I'm going to be an amazing hero! No one can stop me now!"Izuku looked at him in awe. His best friend had unlocked his Quirk—and it was an incredible one.In that moment, a strange warmth began to spread from Izuku's chest. He felt a rush, something electric and uncontainable, like lightning sparking in his veins. His heart started beating faster, faster, until everything around him blurred, colors blending into one another. He blinked, and suddenly, he was at the far end of the playground."What...?" Izuku looked around, baffled. He hadn't run here—he'd just been *there*, standing next to Bakugo. But somehow, he'd moved. He turned back, realizing that everyone else was now far across the playground. He was about to take a step when it happened again—a flash, and he found himself back in front of Bakugo, almost like he'd teleported."Woah! Deku, what was *that*?" Bakugo yelled, his eyes filled with something strange—surprise, awe, maybe even jealousy. Izuku looked down at his feet, feeling the tingling energy spread all over his body."I-I don't know," Izuku stammered. "It's like... I just ran really fast. I didn't even try!" He felt a spark of excitement, realizing what this meant: this must be his Quirk!Suddenly, he felt his legs moving, as if they had a mind of their own, and he was off again—zipping past the swing sets, bouncing off the slide. He was barely in control, the sheer speed making him dizzy. It felt amazing, exhilarating even, but he couldn't figure out how to stop. His body was buzzing with energy, but his mind was already spinning from the rush. After a few minutes of flying around the playground, Izuku finally managed to slow himself, skidding to a halt in a cloud of dust. The other kids, who had been watching in stunned silence, burst into cheers. They'd never seen anything like it."Not bad, Deku," Bakugo muttered, crossing his arms and trying to hide his own excitement. "But don't think that just 'cause you're fast, you're gonna be better than me. I'll always be stronger."Izuku grinned back, breathless but beaming with pride. He didn't care about being better—he was just happy that his Quirk had finally appeared, that he could be something more. And as he looked at his best friend, tiny sparks crackling in Bakugo's palms and faint blue energy still crackling around his own feet, Izuku had no idea that this was just the beginning.
