Rheynara's pov
"Welcome to your first battle brief," Professor Devera announces from a recess in the floor in the middle of the lecture hall. I sat bored, next to Liam and the girl whose name I didn't even know. In the row in front of us, I noticed, quite tense after the recent events, Violet, sitting with her friend – Rihannon, that's her name if I remember correctly.
"These are the only classes that take place every day, because only thanks to them will you be able to cope if you are called to serve early," Professor Devera looks from left to right and stops at me. She stiffens for a moment, and her eyes widen. However, I see something other than fear in them, I can't describe what exactly. I tilt my head slightly, knowing that if Devera doesn't stop staring at me right away, it's going to get really awkward. Finally, she shook herself off and nodded at me. Huh? Strange. "And since these classes are held daily and based on the most up-to-date information, you will also be answering to Professor Markham, who deserves your utmost respect," she waves the scribe forward, and he stands next to her, and then Devera brings up the subject again.
Current information.
I clench my fist, and the wooden pen in my hand creaks in protest. They also dare to say that they give us the most up-to-date information. So what if they conceal what is really the most important. Our problem is not the fliers, but the venins, but the beloved command of Navarre will not say a word about it.
Cowards.
How can they lie to everyone like that all the time? How can they call us and our parents traitors?! How could they kill them for wanting to make people aware of what was really going on?!
Crash.
My pen finally gives up and breaks into two pieces. I feel Liam's hand on my thigh, desperately trying to calm me down. But how can I be calm when they lie with impunity all the time? They think they're safe behind these barriers, but they're not going to last forever, oh hell no. And then, when they finaly crumble, it will be too late.
I feel Liam tighten his grip on my knee, and only then do I realize that the room is dead silent and all heads are turned toward me. I shook myself and looked at Professor Devera, who didn't seem overly pleased.
"Cadet Sorrow, if we bore you so much, why don't you speak up and share your knowledge with the rest?" she pierces me with a sharp look, "Especially for you, I will repeat what I just said..."
I interrupted her before she started talking further and explaining everything from the beginning.
"No need to. I heard," I interrupted her and I think I did it not very politely, because Liam's grip became stronger and if it went on like this, he was going to break my knee. So I kicked him under the table, which got a quiet 'Ouch' from him, but in the end he let me go. Well, Liam let it go, but I could feel the gaze burning a hole in my head, and I knew very well who it belonged to. He was not happy. Well, not the first and probably not the last time.
