Lena Luthor prided herself on her composure, her calm demeanor, and her ability to keep her emotions under lock and key. But today, sitting at her desk in L-Corp, she could feel that control slipping. All because of one simple fact: William Dey was flirting with Kara.Kara, who could light up any room with a smile, was always the center of attention, and Lena understood why. But watching William's attempts at charm—those lingering glances, the way he leaned just a little too close when he spoke to her—it grated on Lena in ways she didn't expect.
By the end of the day, Lena's frustration had built up so much that when Kara walked into her office with a coffee and a soft smile, Lena struggled to keep her irritation from showing.
"Hey, I thought you might want a break," Kara said, holding out a latte in Lena's favorite flavor. "Rough day?"
"You could say that," Lena replied, accepting the coffee but not quite meeting Kara's gaze. She hated feeling petty, but jealousy was a stubborn, unwelcome guest.
Kara tilted her head, looking at Lena with that gentle concern that made her heart twist. "Everything okay? You seem... tense."
Lena sighed, knowing she couldn't keep the feelings buried any longer. "It's nothing. Just... I don't know. Maybe I'm tired."
Kara narrowed her eyes, unconvinced. "Come on, Lena. You can tell me."
Lena took a deep breath. "Fine. It's... William. He's been hanging around you a lot lately, hasn't he?" She tried to keep her tone casual, but her words came out sharper than she intended.
Kara's eyes widened in surprise, then softened with understanding. "Are you... jealous?"
Lena looked away, embarrassed. "I'm not usually the jealous type, but... yes. I guess I am. I know it's silly. You're just friends, but seeing him flirt with you..."
Kara reached out, placing a hand over Lena's. Her touch was warm, grounding Lena in an instant. "Hey. You have nothing to worry about. William and I are just friends, that's all. He doesn't mean anything to me."
Lena glanced up, a small, hesitant smile breaking through. "Really?"
"Really." Kara's expression softened even further, a gentle smile tugging at her lips. "You're the only one I care about that way. And for the record, I'm glad you told me how you feel. I want you to know that you're the only one in my heart."
Lena's jealousy melted away, replaced by a warm, fluttering feeling that she was almost afraid to embrace. But Kara's reassuring gaze told her she had nothing to fear.
"So... would you maybe want to get dinner later?" Lena asked, her voice tentative but hopeful.
Kara's smile brightened. "I'd love that. Just us?"
"Just us," Lena confirmed, feeling her heart lighten with every word.
As they made plans, Lena realized how silly her jealousy had been. Kara was right here, with her, where she wanted to be. And that was all that mattered.
