The Trial

Helena and Leon woke up the next morning. Helena dreaded this day but knew she needed to say what she had wanted for years. It was time Derek knew how she felt. Leon hugged her from behind, "Hey, you're going to be great." she smiled and kissed him. He looked at her finger with her engagement ring on, "Are you sure you want people to know about this?" she nodded, "Yes, I'm not afraid anymore." Leon smiled. Neither am I. Come on, Emily and the others will be waiting."  she smiled as they grabbed their things and headed out.

"At the courtroom."

The jurors, bailiff, and the Judge were present. Emily Helena's Lawyer was sitting on the opposite side of Derek and his Lawyer. Derek had his parents on his side, which didn't surprise the others. Hunnigan, Claire, Jill, and Chris sat on Helena's side. Everyone was talking at once. The Judge banged her gavel, "Quiet in the court, so today, based on the lawsuit People vs. Derek Hunter, multiple counts of rape and 2nd-degree murder and also, well, this is new paying off the victims, Mr. Hunter, how do you plead?" Derek rose and answered, "Not guilty, your honor." The Judge was not impressed, "I'll hear both sides on bail." Emily argued, "your honor, the people as for remand this man has committed these crimes over the years, and each time Mr. Mrs. Hunter has paid off the victims so he wouldn't pay the consequences." Derek's lawyer argued, "that's ridiculous your honor Mr. Hunter is not a flight risk and where is the proof we request bail your honor!" Emily fired back, "your honor I have his latest victim Agent Harper who will give an impact statement based solely what she went through the victims deserve justice." the Judge nodded, "I agree Mr. Hunter is remanded into custody next case." 

Emily joined the others outside the court. "Man, that was rough." Helena sighs, "He's still claiming he's innocent after everything he did to the others and me especially." Emily nods, "Don't worry. Trust me, we'll get him. I promise to meet with the Judge and his lawyer, so wait here!" They nodded, and they sat down. He held her hand, "Hey, this isn't over yet; it's just the beginning." Helena nodded, "I just hope it's enough to win my case." Leon nodded, "Emily knows what she's doing, so trust her." she nodded as they were called back and sat down and watched. Emily called her first witness, Ashley Jones's roommate, Tara Washington. The bailiff swore to her, "Do you swear to tell the whole truth to help your god!" Tara nodded, "I do." the bailiff nodded, "You may be seated." Emily was the first to question her, "Ms. Washington, do you remember Ashley Jones?" Tara answered, "Yes, she was my roommate at Harvard Law and my best friend." Emily nodded, "and what was she studying at Harvard?" Tara sighed, "she was studying law in criminal justice." Emily sighs, "And she was about to graduate from law school and get her degree, correct? Can you describe how she felt at that moment?" Tara smiled, "She was so excited and was looking forward to the future. We discussed practicing law together in the firm, but that didn't happen." Emily looked at her, "and why is that?" Tara gasps in tears, "1 week prior, she was murdered." Emily sighs, "The man who murdered her, do you see him in the courtroom!" Tara nodded, "yet he's right there, Derek Hunter!" Emily looked at the jurors, "Let the record show the witness has identified the perpetrator, Derek Hunter. Thank you, Tara, no further questions."
