I walked downstairs the next afternoon, disappointed to not see any food on the table.

"Mom, Dad? What's there to eat?" I yelled to them throughout the house.

"I don't know, look in the fridge!" My Mom yelled back.

I walked over to the fridge, rummaging through it in hopes to find some junk food. I didn't want any health crap.

I heard the front door open and my brother, Paxton, came around the corner. All sweaty from playing basketball in the driveway.

"Hey, I got invited to one of those people's parties from down the street. You wanna come?" He asked. I thought about it for a minute.

"When?"

"Tonight, like they always have them." He said.

"I guess so." I shrugged. Sure, I didn't really like the people on this street but I can't really judge until I know them.

Plus I'm tired of being left out.

My brother apparently had looks. I didn't see it, but that's probably because we're siblings. A lot of the girl on this street always say hi to Paxton. So it doesn't surprise me that he was invited.

There was even this time that a girl was driving down the street and yelled out hi to him when he was playing basketball.

Our basketball goal is at the end of our drive way by the street so people can get a good look at him while he's playing.

I grabbed a Corndog and set it in the microwave to quickly cook. I ate it on the way to my room and threw away the stick in my bathroom trash can.

I still have a few hours left. I thought as I sat down on my bed. Maybe I'll just take a little nap.

"Mercedes." Paxton shook me awake. I squinted my eyes open, they were still droopy.

"Are you ready to go?" He questioned.

"It's already time to go?"

"Yeah." He lightly laughed.

So much for a little nap. Might as well sleep for the whole day. I rolled my eyes to myself.

"I guess, let's go." I said as I got up and put on some shoes. We walked downstairs and I said bye to my parents before we headed down the street.

The walk only took about three minutes tops. It felt good outside for it only being seven in the evening.

"What are we going to do here?" I whispered to Paxton when we were almost there.

"I don't know, probably what they always do on weekends."

We walked up to the house and rung the doorbell. Waiting for an answer. The door opened to reveal a girl that looked my age.

"Hey, Paxton! Who's this?" She smiled.

"This is my sister, Mercedes." He told her. She opened the door wider to let us in.

"Oh yeah! I see you a lot playing basketball with him, I'm Elisabeth" She said to me.

"I don't actually play. He just makes me get his rebounds." I said and Paxton agreed.

She led us into the living room where there were more kids waiting and talking.

"Guys, his is Paxton and his sister Mercedes." She introduces us. "Come on." Everyone followed her outside, again.

"Beth, Jaxon, come help me." She said and I was left with my brother and around seven other teens.

"Hey, Mercedes, right?" Two girls came up to me and asked. I nodded. I'm Hepsey, and this is Nita."

"How come I haven't seen you before but I've seen your brother?" Nita questioned.

"I don't really come out much." I shrugged. I hear the sound of multiple engines running and three four wheelers came from the side of the house and they raced down the street.

"Have you ever rode a four wheeler before." A boy with blondish hair asked me.

"Yeah, a few times with my friend." I confirmed.

"I'm Carter by the way." He smiled.

"Mercedes." I smiled back.

"Cedes! You wanna ride on the back?" Elisabeth stopped and yelled to me.

"Why not?" I said and walked over to her, sitting on the back and holding onto her.

"Hold on tight." She said, and drove out of the drive way and down the road, fast.

I looked to my right and saw that we drove past the mill. The light was barely seen through the wood, indicating that someone was in there.

Elisabeth drove past it and all the way down to the train tracks when we turned around. Heading back, we passed another girl with her friend on the back of the four wheeler. When we arrived back to her house I got off and someone else got on.

"So, how long have you lived here?" Carter stood by me and asked.

"For two years or so, but I never got out." I said, he nodded saying that he understood.

"That's cool, I've lived her all my life. Everyone here is my family, except you and your brother, of course." He told me.

"Yeah, I know no one here." Him and I laughed.

"That over there is Eddie but we call him Ed. That's Hepsey, Paisley, Jaxon, Cora, Beth, Ella, Nita, and my brother, Jasper. Those two girls that were on the other two for wheelers where Lauren and Alice." I pointed to everyone.

"I just forgot half of that but okay." I joked.

"Yeah, there's a lot of us." He laughed.

I looked over to my brother to see him with Paisley and Cora. They seemed to like him.

Everyone likes my brother. I jokingly said to myself.

***

"Thanks for coming!" Elisabeth waved to us, It was a few hours later when it started to get late, so we decided to leave.

"Thanks for inviting us." Paxton smiled.

"Bye, Mercedes." Carter said.

"Bye." I smiled to him. Paxton and I started to walk out the drive way when I said,

"Wait, um, I'm going to go up the hill real quick. I think I dropped something when we rode the four wheelers."

"Okay well hurry and get home because getting late." He said, I nodded and started my journey to the mill.
