"Come on, wake up." Paxton shook me awake.

"What?" I groggily said.

"Elisabeth wants to know if you want to hang out."

"Is she here?" I squinted my eyes, getting used to the light in the room.

"No, she called. I gave her my number last night." He explained.

"Okay, get out. I'll be down there in a little bit." I said and shoved him out.

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair, walking to my closet. I grabbed out an outfit for the day and slowly put it on.

Walking down the stairs, of course, being me, I tripped on the last step. I heard Paxton start to laugh.

"Shut up." I glared at him.

"Come on." He was still chuckling. We walked outside and he led me to Elisabeth's house. I knocked on the door and waited for her to answer.

"Oh, hey, Mercedes!" Elisabeth answered. "Hey, Paxton!"

We followed her into her living room to see Carter and Rita.

"Hey, Mercedes." Carter waved to me, while Rita waved to Paxton. I don't really know Rita, vice versa.

I sat down in between Carter and Elisabeth. Her and Rita were talking to my brother.

"So, how have you been?" Carter asked me.

"Good, thanks for asking. What about you?" I questioned back.

"No problem, and good. I didn't sleep very well last night, so I'm still kinda tired." He said.

"Why are you still tired?"

"I stayed up playing Sega after the party." He chuckled.

"Really? I've never played video games." I shrugged.

"What? Never?"

"Never." I confirmed.

"Elisabeth, hook up your Nintendo, we're playing Mario."

***

"What! No!" I yelled as I died on Super Mario Bros.

"My turn." Paxton cockily smirked, and popped his knuckles, like he was big and bad.

He grabbed the controller, and started to play. Within three minutes, he died.

"This is hard!" He whined.

"Come on, my turn." Carter took the controller from Paxton and restarted the level.

He jumped over and onto things like it was nothing.

"Man, you've gotta teach me how to play, that good." Paxton said in awe. Rita and Elisabeth started to giggle.

"Sorry, man, I can't teach skill. I'm born with it." Carter told him.

"See, Paxton, I told you that you had no skills!" I exclaimed.

"I'm bored." Rita sighed.

"We should go up the hill!" Paxton suggested.

"Yeah, we can go into that creepy shack place." Elisabeth spoke.

Oh, great. I thought.

"Um, actually it's really hot outside. Let's stay inside where it's cool." I told them, trying to avoid them from going to the mill.

"Yeah, that's a great idea." Carter turned to look at me, from sitting on the floor, still playing the Nintendo that was hooked up to the TV.

"Okay, I guess we'll stay inside. I don't like sweating." Rita said.

Good. What if they did go and they went in to find J.D. there? That would've been bad. I thought.

I'll have to try my best to keep him a secret.
