The first snowflakes had started falling just as Miku and Teto left the studio, dusting the city streets with a thin, glistening layer of white. Miku shivered, wrapping her scarf tighter around her neck, but her fingers were already going numb in the chilly air. Teto noticed and laughed, nudging Miku's arm playfully.
"Come on, don't tell me you're already freezing!" Teto teased, her breath forming little puffs in the cold.
Miku tried to laugh it off, but her teeth chattered as she grinned. "Maybe I am. Not all of us are cold-resistant like you, you know!"
They walked on, the snow picking up around them. Streetlamps cast a warm, golden glow on the glistening snow-covered ground, and the world felt softer, quieter than usual. When a gust of wind blew a flurry of snowflakes directly into their faces, Teto squealed and grabbed Miku's arm, pulling her toward a little café nestled on the corner of the street.
"Let's get warm in there," Teto said, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she held the door open for Miku.
Inside, the café was small and charming, with a warm light bathing the room. The walls were lined with vintage posters, and a little bell jingled as they entered. A gentle smell of hot chocolate and cinnamon filled the air, instantly comforting them as they took a small table near the back, hidden from the few other patrons.
As they settled in, Miku watched Teto's cheeks, rosy from the cold, and felt a gentle warmth spread through her chest. It was peaceful in a way that felt almost like a dream, the soft glow and cozy atmosphere wrapping around them as snow continued to fall outside.
A barista brought over two steaming mugs of hot chocolate topped with fluffy whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Teto grinned, taking a big, enthusiastic sip and leaving a bit of whipped cream on her nose. Miku laughed, reaching over to wipe it away with her thumb.
Teto's face flushed a little, her eyes darting away. "Thanks..." she mumbled, hiding her smile behind her mug.
Miku laughed softly. "You're welcome. Though I don't know how you manage to make even whipped cream look cute."
Teto rolled her eyes but smiled, leaning back in her chair as she looked at Miku thoughtfully. "This is nice," she said, her voice quieter. "I didn't realize how much I needed a break... or how much I needed this with you."
Miku's heart fluttered at the sincerity in Teto's words. She took a sip of her hot chocolate, letting the warmth spread through her, before reaching across the table and holding Teto's hand.
"I'm glad we have this, too. We're always so busy that... sometimes I worry we'll never get to just be together," Miku admitted, her voice soft but tinged with a hint of vulnerability.
Teto squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I'm here, Miku. No matter how busy we get, I'll always make time for us." Her voice was filled with such certainty that it brought a smile to Miku's face, easing away her lingering worries.
They shared stories and laughed, each of them talking about their dreams, their funny memories, and all the little things they'd never had the chance to tell each other. Teto told Miku about a time she'd tried to impress Miku in rehearsal by singing one of Miku's more challenging solos, only to end up completely messing up and tripping over her own lyrics. They both dissolved into laughter at the mental image, the warmth of the café making everything feel perfect.
But then, as they continued to talk, Miku grew quiet for a moment, looking out at the snow blanketing the world outside. The sight was beautiful, but she couldn't shake the feeling that time was slipping by too quickly, like the quiet peace between them was only temporary.
"What's on your mind?" Teto's voice was soft, her gaze full of understanding.
Miku hesitated, but the gentle sincerity in Teto's eyes encouraged her to speak. "Sometimes, I just... worry that this won't last. That one day, we'll get so caught up in everything that we'll drift apart."
Teto reached across the table, holding Miku's hand tightly, her expression gentle yet determined. "Miku, we won't let that happen. We've waited too long to just... let it slip away. As long as we want this, we'll make it work."
Her words settled something deep within Miku, filling her with a warmth that was more than just the hot chocolate and the cozy café. She realized that Teto was her home, the one place she always wanted to return to.
Without thinking, Miku leaned forward and kissed Teto gently, her heart swelling as Teto smiled against her lips. The moment was simple yet profound, the two of them lost in their own little world as the snow continued to fall softly outside.
They pulled apart, their hands still intertwined as they looked at each other with quiet, unspoken promises in their gazes.
"Let's make this last, Miku," Teto whispered.
And as they sat there, watching the snow drift down outside, Miku couldn't imagine wanting anything else.
