" He is a man but he is not you. I will not stay quiet anymore." Noor said, she knew if she fell weak now, he would be successful in this trap of his.
" really Noor? Okay then, go and tell him. Let's see what's he's like." He challenged her.
She looked at him, Noor had no will to respond. She wanted to leave, leave so she could control her fast heartbeat, so she could stop hiding the fear and unease on her face.
Noor walked past him and this time he didn't stopped her. He looked down, a smirk on his face, he knew that he won.
*...*...*
She was pacing around, a short while ago, the happiness that was on her face was now nowhere to be seen. Hamza's word kept circling in her mind. Telling Umer was something always difficult and now, it was impossible. Afraid of his immediate reaction. Frightened. Even while trying to keep calm she was unable to shake off all the negative thoughts." No, Umer, he's not like that. I haven't done anything wrong. If I don't tell him now I will never be able to." She said, trying to convince herself.
" what if he doesn't believe me....? But it's not my fault. No it's not my fault. I will just tell him everything; I won't leave any room for doubt." She decided.
" yes. I will tell him." She made up her mind.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Noor jolted as she turned around. The first thought that crossed her mind was of Hamza. But why would he come? She moved towards the door and opened it. It was the servant. Noor took a relieved breath.
" Yumna begum sahiba apko bula rahi hain."
Noor was confused, then nodded. " I'm coming." She said, the servant left.
She lightly knocked the door, and stepped inside. Noor had thought Yumna called her only to take Umer's anger on her. After what he said at breakfast. But she didn't knew that the truth was more dangerous than what she had expected.
" you called for me Phoppo?" She asked, politely, only to feel the piercing gaze directed at her. Yumna was standing near the window, She turned to look at Noor or glare at her. her eyes told Noor that the matter was not small.
" How much longer will you continue this innocent act of your? Tell me have you not found peace by trapping Umer that now you're after my son?"
The question was like a shock to her. She looked at Yumna in utter disbelief. Her heart raced, and fear coursed through her body. As she tried to convince herself that phoppo did not have come to know this. Not this.
" why are you quiet now? Don't you understand what I'm saying?"
" I...I don't understand."
" I'll explain it to you. Because you've never admitted to your tricks. First you trap my son in your web of love and now you have the audacity to say you don't understand. What kind of a girl are you? Don't you care about your own dignity, or even Umer's?" Yumna fired questions after questions. And Noor stood frozen listening to her words.
She couldn't move an inch from her place. Just listening to the sharp, hatred filled tone of Yumna. With wide eyes and numb ears, as she took in every accusation–one after another, each bigger, more shameful, and more painful than the last.
Yumna seeing her silent, felt even more enraged. What kind of girl was she, remaining quiet despite hearing all this? Yes, because when the truth uncovers people tend to fell silent.
" how many times I told Ammi not to take this burden, but at that time no one seem to have said anything to Hajra. Tell me, do you not feel ashamed? Did you not felt guilty? It's the house in which you have been raised? The people who gave a roof under your head. To do such cheap things here. What kind of a despicable person you are? I'm feeling disgusted from even looking at you."
