Vera hated her period. Everybody did. But her's was a whole different level, according to her. It left her feeling like shit everytime and the pain was usually worse than anything you could imagine.
"Mummy!". She screamed with all she had, feeling too weak to move. But needing to go to the bathroom and wanting help.
"Mummy oo". She called out again. A few seconds later her room door opened and her mother sauntered in.
"Nsitibé?". She looked at the nineteen year old who looked a mess and had scattered her bed.
"I want to pee". Vera cried, her lower abdomen giving a kick for even speaking.
"Then pee na". Her mother stated as she wiped her wet hands down her night dress from the night before.
"I can not stand up, please help me". A pained moan leaves her mouth and her eyes watered.
"If it's to ignore me you will do it without batting a lash but when it's time for help you'd come crawling". Her mother said walking closer to the bed and helping the dramatic daughter of hers to stand.
"Mummy I go through things but this is different". Vera murmured, as her mum support her by the waist towards the bathroom.
"And now you have scattered my bed, I don't know why you can not stay in your room".
Vera had a habit of using her mum's bed as a war zone for her period days.
It was more comfy. She had simply said when asked.
"You are always eating sugary things why won't you be in serious pain". Her mother said as she watched the dramatic teenager pee.
"Even if I don't it would be the same thing mum". She replied spitefully, wishing for nothing more than this day to be over.
That day her younger brother had called her a big baby and her elder brother had gotten her her favorite chocolate cake, getting a scolding from their mum for adding to her pain. Tamara was spending the weekend at her man's but gave her a few moments of her time through a video call.
"See your face, you look dead". Tamara commented.
"Thank you". She mumbled.
"You should do and get yourself a boyfriend, you can't be stressing me like this".
"Oh so now I'm stressing you?".
"Yes, yes you are".
"Oya go na".
"Abeg shut up".
The next day was school and Vera wouldn't have bothered if not for an assignment she needed to hand in. And she was too prideful the ask for help from one of her course mates she was close to. She'd worn a large pink hoodie and black leggings and her go to 'I'm sad' face cap and stuffed her feet into her Adidas slides.
She grabbed her tote bag and did not bother tending to her chapped lips."I'm going to school". She whispered as she walked past her mum.
"Ah ah, you did not do your lips oo". Her mother told her because she knew Vera was obsessed with lining her lips.
"I don't have strength mummy".
"No atleast rub Vaseline, eh you look like you were sick".
Vera shook her head. "I will put it when I enter the bolt".
She rushed out of the house and towards the waiting Corolla outside the gate.
"I'm so sorry for taking long..." She was saying as she opened the passenger door of the car and sat. She felt her heart react before she saw him.
