Kiara woke up feeling restless, the memories from the last few days tangled in her mind. With a sigh, she grabbed her bike and made her way to the Château. Part of her was anxious about facing John B again, unsure if things had really settled between them. But he had seemed different last time, like the anger was melting into worry, so she took the chance.
As she rolled up to the porch, she saw all three boys lounging outside. JJ was the first one to jump up, giving her a quick, tight hug.
"Hey, Kie. How are you?" he said, his usual cocky smirk softened by genuine concern.
"Good, thank god. My parents didn't kill me," she said with a grin, referring to the night her mom had caught them. JJ snorted in amusement, giving her a playful nudge as Pope walked up.
"I missed you so much," Pope said, wrapping her in a long, warm hug.
"I missed you too, Pope," Kiara replied, smiling into his shoulder.
Finally, John B came over, his expression serious but softened. "Look, Kie, I'm not mad anymore. I know you've been through hell, and I just want you to remember—you need something, you call me. We're here for you, no matter what." He opened his arms, and she stepped into the hug, clutching him tightly.
"I'm sorry for everything, John B. And... I'm sorry about Big John. You didn't deserve that," she murmured, feeling the weight of his loss.
When they finally pulled apart, JJ, eyebrow raised, muttered, "Are we done with all this sappy shit?" He smirked as Kiara laughed, shaking her head.
The Pogues decided to start a fire and roast marshmallows, slipping into their usual banter and talking about random things, each of them seeming lighter than they had in a long time. After a while, Kiara stood up, excusing herself to grab a cup of water. She'd barely reached the kitchen when she heard footsteps, and JJ followed her in, leaning against the counter as she filled her cup.
"So," he started, keeping his voice low, "are you gonna tell them about... y'know?" His eyes flickered with concern.
Kiara's face hardened, and she shook her head. "No, JJ. Not yet. I don't think I'll ever be ready for that," she said, a pang of shame and anger still lingering.
JJ just watched her, his blue eyes searching her face like he was trying to understand every piece of her pain.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked, a laugh escaping as she tried to lighten the mood.
"Like what?" he replied, cocking his head. "I'm just admiring your beauty, princess." He took a slow step forward, getting a little closer.
Kiara felt her cheeks flush, her pulse quickening, and she mentally scolded herself. That's just JJ being JJ. Stop overthinking it. She tried to remind herself he flirted like this all the time.
"Oh, yeah?" she retorted, taking a step closer as well. Now, they were practically toe to toe, the air thick with tension. JJ's gaze drifted from her eyes to her mouth, his voice dropping lower.
