~~Takumi Hirano~~

I looked up from my phone when I noticed Elijah staring at me. I tilted my head.

"What?"

He chuckled and looked away from me, taking a sip from his mug of tea. I frowned a little.

"Seriously, what? Shouldn't I be the one giving you weird looks for literally rejecting-"

"No, no, it's just..."

Elijah cut me off with a smirk.

"You're an idiot. A moronic idiot."

"WHAT???"

"Come on, hurry up, we need to start walking."

"HOLD ON JUST A SECOND YOU ASSHO-"

Too late. Elijah had already put his mug in the dishwasher and left the kitchen, leaving me to bite the last of my toast and stuff my dishes in the dishwasher before I raced after him.

Who does this asshole think he is?? Calling me an idiot! Hmph.

Soon, we were out of my house and walking towards the bus stop, Elijah with his hands in his pockets, his tousled caramel coloured hair and slightly tanned skin practically glowing in the morning sunlight.

He's the idiot.

...

...

An extremely handsome idiot.

I almost tripped on the sidewalk when I admitted that to myself. Me? Calling Elijah, handsome?? I huffed in annoyance, and Elijah turned to look at me.

"Hm? What's wrong?"

I scowled at him and walked past him, my nose in the air as I tried to clear all thoughts that associated 'Elijah' with 'hot'.

"Nothing."

Elijah chuckled but followed me, catching up easily with his long legs. We walked in silence for a bit, enjoying the morning sun and the cool breeze before Elijah broke the silence.

"Where were your parents today?"

"Oh-"

Really? That's what he wants to ask?

"They're both at work. Some 'emergency' apparently."

My mom is a surgeon, and my dad is one of the nurses under her. Both my parents had left the night before to get to the hospital after some freak accident in a building near our school. Something about the elevator cords snapping and hurting a bunch of people in the process.

Speak of the devil, there's the building.

"Holy shit..."

Elijah said as we got closer to the taped off building. News reporters were still here, although the ambulances from last night were gone. Police officers were questioning people that had arrived at the building.

The glass doors of the building were cracked, and I could see huge bits of metal wreckage of what must have been the elevator inside. As we got closer, we could hear the local news reporter speaking into the microphone. There were camera's recording both the reporter and the building behind her.

" - were no deaths, but the 14 people in the elevator, three of them under the age of 18, were severely injured and are currently in hospital undergoing surgery. Almost 30 casualties were counted, but they have been identified as only surface wounds. More details will be disclosed as soon as the doctors are able. Julie Kempton, ALS news."

I didn't realize I had gotten closer and stopped walking to listen until I felt someone grab my shoulder and whirl me around. I was suddenly face-to-face with a grumpy looking policeman with a potbelly.

"And what are you doing here?"

Mr Grumpy said in... well, a grumpy tone. I looked over my shoulder, but I couldn't see Elijah.

Where the hell did that idiot go?

I sighed, and Mr Grumpy scowled at me, his face twisting into an ugly kind of spiral.

"Hey, you think this is a joke?? What the hell are you doing over the safety lines??"

I blinked and looked over to where I was standing with Elijah previously. Sure enough, a line of yellow and black warning tape was lying on the ground. I hadn't noticed.

"Um, it wasn't up, so I didn't - "

"Don't lie, kid! I put the warning up myself, so I know it was up!"

Mr Grumpy spat in my face, and I resisted the urge to wipe my cheeks.

What's this guy's problem? It probably just fell off, so why is he giving me crap for this?? It was an accident!

"Sir, I'm sorry, but I really didn't see - "

"Bullshit! Are you saying I'm bad at my job, boy?"

I instinctively took a step back as the officer took a menacing step forward. I winced when Mr Grumpy grabbed my upper arm and squeezed it threateningly.

"I can take you to the station for not staying in the civilian safe area and for lying to an officer. Cut the crap!"

I felt the pressure on my arm tighten, and I reached up, trying to pry off Mr Grumpy's strong hand but only succeeded in making him squeeze tighter.

I know I shouldn't yell at a police officer, but...

"Hey! Let go of me!"

I yelled out, hoping to faze Mr Grumpy. A look of surprise flashed across the officer's features, but it was gone again. He squeezed my arm so hard that I felt my circulation cutting off.

"Shut up! You're lying to me, you chink! Tell the truth!"

My eyes widened when the officer used a racist slur at me.

Alright, now I'm pissed.

I swung my leg up and hit the officer right where it would hurt most; the crotch. Mr Grumpy cried out in pain and quickly let go of my arm, dropping to his knees as he held his crotch with one hand. The other hand grabbed his walky talky, and he glared at me with so much rage that I wondered if I just might have crossed a line.

Oops...
