In the quiet of the car after landing, Faye turned to Yoko, her expression unusually gentle. "Did you enjoy Milan, Doctor?" she asked, her voice soft yet somehow intense.
Yoko glanced at her, a hint of color rising in her cheeks before she looked away, trying to sound indifferent. "Yeah... it was.. very..nice," she murmured, her voice holding a slight shyness. "I don't remember the last time I had time to travel. Felt good."
Faye's smirk widened, sensing the warmth in Yoko's words. "Don't worry," she said, leaning a little closer, her voice dropping to a low murmur. "I'll make sure you get to see the world. Anywhere you want."
Yoko scoffed, glancing at her with an eyebrow raised. "Sounds like a bit much, don't you think, Ms. Malisorn?"
Faye shrugged, the playful glint in her eyes refusing to fade. "I think you deserve more than just 'a bit,' Doctor."
Yoko rolled her eyes, but she couldn't hide the smile tugging at her lips as she turned to look out the window. As they pulled up to the estate, she had barely unbuckled her seatbelt when Faye was already opening her door, her hand outstretched.
"Come with me," Faye said, her voice carrying that same teasing, irresistible confidence that always made Yoko's heart flutter—even if she'd never admit it.
Yoko hesitated. "What is it now?" she asked, trying to keep her voice even as Faye's fingers intertwined with hers, tugging her gently forward. She didn't wait for an answer, pulling Yoko through the estate's grand hallways.
"You'll see," Faye replied cryptically, a hint of something playful, almost childlike, in her tone.
They finally stopped in front of a large wooden door Yoko had never noticed before. Faye gestured to it, her eyes bright with anticipation."Go on, open it."
With a mix of curiosity and confusion, Yoko slowly pushed open the door—and gasped.
As Yoko stepped into the room, her breath caught. The soft pink hues on the walls seemed to wrap around her like a warm embrace, and the delicate light filtering in through the window cast everything in a gentle, comforting glow. She took a few steps in, barely daring to believe what she was seeing, her eyes widening as they swept over every detail.
In the corner stood a polished, spacious desk with a comfortable, ergonomic chair behind it. On the desk, the items were meticulously arranged—new folders, a high-quality stethoscope, a notepad, and a stylish pen set, all resting in perfect order, as if waiting just for her. Her fingers brushed over the cool, smooth surface of the desk, the sensation grounding her as she took it all in.
Then her gaze moved to the wall, where an entire bookshelf reached from floor to ceiling. Rows upon rows of medical books lined the shelves—some familiar titles she'd studied from in school, others new, still wrapped in pristine plastic.
And right there, tucked between them, were some of her own books from her old apartment, titles she thought she'd lost or forgotten. She felt her heart skip as she reached out, her fingertips grazing the spines like they were treasures she hadn't realized she missed. She blinked, a warmth starting to rise in her chest, and it surprised her how deeply it hit.
Each piece of equipment looked as if it had been chosen with care. A compact ultrasound machine, an updated digital blood pressure monitor, and even a set of state-of-the-art diagnostic tools were laid out neatly in their own space, their polished metal surfaces gleaming under the light.
There was even a small fridge tucked into one corner for medications and sample storage, and a brand-new examination bed on one side of the room. She felt a little overwhelmed as she walked around, her fingertips grazing each item. Everything was the latest model, every detail accounted for. It was a setup worthy of a high-end clinic, and yet... it was all here. For her.
