I awoke to a loud crash.
Dazed, I blinked and looked around my room. Everything seemed normal. My cat jumped on the bed, mewing loudly. I cupped his fluffy face in my hand.
'Don't worry Deathbringer. I'll go check it out.'So I slid out of my warm, cozy bad, put on a jacket and walked out, while Deathbringer took my place on the pillow, and walked through the cold halls to the apartment next to mine. This must've been where the crash came from, I thought, ringing the doorbell.
A girl, around my age opened. She had dark-brown eyes.
'H-hello.' She stuttered, in a voice sounding like she had been crying. 'What's the matter?'
'Hi, I'm Thalia.' I introduced myself. 'Is everything okay? I heard a crash and thought about checking it out.'
'Oh, that's just my dog. Everything is fine. I'm Reyna, by the way.' She smiled, though the smile didn't reach her eyes. something told me it was definitely not fine.
'Alright.' I gave in. 'I live next to you, so just knock if you need anything, okay.'
'Thanks.' She gave me a quick nod before closing the door.-pov switch-
I closed the door and stumbled back to the living room. The pieces of the mirror I broke a few minutes earlier lay on the floor, untouched.
He can't find me, right? But what if he did. The one person I didn't want to meet ever again? What if he broke in?
With trembling hands, I picked up the shards.
Could I ever escape my family-line?My hands clenched into fists. Why was I letting an asshole take over my life? He was just a man, just a stupid man.
'Ow!' I shrieked, realising I clenched my fists with the glass still in it. Blood trickled down my hand palms as I tried to find bandages.
Shit, I knew I should've bought them yesterday. There weren't any left. Which left only one option.
The neighbour.-Pov switch-
I couldn't shake the feeling something was off.
A dog randomly being awake at three AM and creating a crash this louds? Not that I'm a dog-expert, but aren't most dogs asleep by then?
'Get out.' I muttered, trying to find the most respectful way to shove my cat of my pillow. Deathbringer hissed and clawed at me.
'Wow. Rude.'A knock on the door caught my attention. I left Deathbringer to continue his nap and opened. The girl, Reyna, stood in front of me, hands bloodied up.
'What happened?' I questioned, inspecting her hands.
'I-uhm... could I please borrow some bandages?'
'Sure, come in.' I held open the door for her to come in and rummaged through the cabinets, pushing away cat-toys and cat-food until I finally reached the bandages.'Hands.' I commanded, before wrapping them tightly. She flinched, but didn't pull back.
When I finished, I pointed at a chair. 'I think we need to talk.'
Reyna hesitated, but reluctantly sat down. 'What do you want to talk about?'
'What's really going on?'
A panicked expression flashed over her face. 'W-what?'
'Look, I don't want to intrude, but there's something going on. Are you alright?'
She took a deep breath. 'Yea, just broke the mirror.'
'And you picked up the shards with bare hands?'
A slight smile appeared on her face. 'That was stupid, wasn't it?'
'Yep.''I haven't really been thinking straight.' Reyna admitted. 'I just moved in to avoid my parents, so my life has been a mess.
'Shitty home life?' I asked. She nodded. 'I can relate.'
'Thanks for helping.' She said. 'I'll have to go back in now. We should meet up more?'
I gave her a nod and opened the door. She smiled at me, a beautiful smile brightining up her facial features. And that, dear readers, was how I had my first experience with gay-panic.
